Jonathan Smith Leads Cisne To Volleyball Sectional

Jonathan Smith, the son of Doug and Candy Smith of Altamont, is the head coach of the Cisne High School volleyball team this season.

Smith, a graduate of Altamont High School, led the Runnin' Lions to a regional championship, the first time in school history. Cisne also has broken every school record this season. They were the Midland Trail Conference regular season champions and won the conference tournament.

Cisne will now take on South Central in the second match Tuesday at the Class 1A Lebanon Sectional, at 7 p.m. The opening match features Woodlawn against Lebanon at 6. The winners advance to the championship match Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

In other area sectionals, Stewardson-Strasburg will face Kansas at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Class 1A Arcola Sectional. The second match features Broadlands Heritage against Arthur/Lovington at 7 p.m. The winners advance to the title contest Thursday at 7 p.m.

In Class 2A, Effingham St. Anthony squares off against Robinson at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Newton Sectional. the opening match features Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran against Carlinville at 6 p.m. The winners meet Thursday at 7 p.m. for the sectional championship.
