Volleyball Regionals Open Around Area

Volleyball regionals opened around the area Monday evening. Matches in Class 1A, 2A and 3A were contested with the winners advancing, while the losers saw their seasons come to a close for the year.

Class 1A Dieterich Regional

Only one match was on the agenda ias Dieterich moved ahead in its own regional Monday evening.

Beecher City won the opener 25-19 but Dieterich rallied and came back to win 25-14, 25-19. Mallorie Vahling and Jodi Zacha provided the one-two scoring punch as Vahling tallied 13 points and Zacha 12. Vahling had an all-around good match, leading in aces with seven, digs with 13 and she finished with five kills and two blocks.

Madison Boerngen led in kills with eight while Mindy Bohnhoff had 21 assists.

Caitlin Sloan led Beecher City in digs with 14. Kacie Hilt had 12 assists. Kirby Herrmann and Kirsten Buzzard led in kills with six each. Buzzard also led in aces with four.

The Movin' Maroons now face Stewardson-Strasburg today at 6 p.m. followed by Neoga facing Cowden-Herrick at 7.

Class 2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

The host squad and Flora advanced from first round play in the St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional Monday evening.

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Vandalia 27-25, 25-21. The Eagles were led by C. Howard and B. Oberlink with eight kills each. E. Behl led in assists with 12. Oberlink and G. Moore had two aces each. Moore also led in digs with eight. Howard had one solo block and one block assist.

In the second match, Flora downed Hillsboro 25-22, 25-14.

Tonight's matchups find St. Elmo/Brownstown taking on Altamont at 6 followed by Flora facing Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran at 7.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Ramsey opened play in the South Central Regional with a victory over Mulberry Grove. Ramsey won in two games, 25-21, 25-18.

Ramsey will now take on North Clay (Louisville) tonight at 6 followed by host South Central facing Patoka at 7.

 

Class 1A Arcola Regional

Atwood-Hammond was a winner in two games over Bethany Okaw Valley. Atwood-Hammond won 25-20, 25-12.

The squad will now take on Arthur-Lovington at 6 p.m. followed by Windsor facing Arcola at 7.

 

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Marshall and Robinson picked up opening round victories at the Casey-Westfield Regional Monday evening.

Marshall won over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 25-15, 25-17. Robinson then downed Lawrenceville 25-10, 25-7.

Marshall will now face Newton at 6 p.m. today while Robinson faces Casey-Westfield at 7.

 

Class 2A Pana Regional

Pana ended Cumberland's season Monday evening. The Panthers defeated the Pirates 25-19, 25-23.

Pana advances to face Effingham St. Anthony tonight at 6 followed by Teutopolis taking on Shelbyville at 7.

 

Class 3A Olney Regional

Host Olney picked up an opening round victory. The Tigers beat Paris 25-9, 25-9.

Olney will now face Mattoon at 6 p.m. today followed by Effingham taking on Charleston at 7.
