Altamont Second in Own VB Tourney, SE/B Picks Up One Win at Mattoon

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School placed second in its own volleyball tournament Saturday.

In Pool A, Altamont defeated Beecher City, 25-14, 25-14; Vandalia won over Lincolnwood, 25-14, 25-17; Altamont downed Vandalia, 25-13, 25-19; Lincolnwood beat Beecher City, 25-22, 25-20; Altamont was victorious over Lincolnwood, 25-20, 25-17 and Vandalia claimed a win over Beecher City, 25-17, 25-13.

In Pool B, Greenville downed South Central, 2-0; Nokomis won over Cumberland, 2-0; Greenville defeated Cumberland, 2-0; South Central claimed wins over Nokomis 2-1 and Cumberland 2-0 and Greenville downed Nokomis, 2-0.

In the third place match, Vandalia defeated South Central, 27-25, 25-23. The championship went to Greenville over Altamont. Altamont won the opener 25-18 but Greenville came back 26-24 and 15-11.

Altamont is now 8-2 on the season while Beecher City is 3-3. Both teams face Stewardson-Strasburg next, Beecher City tonight and Altamont Thursday.

Mattoon Tournament

St. Elmo/Brownstown suffered four losses and picked up one victory at the Mattoon Tournament Saturday.

Neoga won the opener over SE/B 25-18, 25-23. SE/B then fell to Pana 25-15, 25-16, Taylorville 26-24, 25-22 and Warrensburg-Latham 25-11, 25-18.

St. Elmo/Brownstown won the final contest 25-22, 15-25, 15-12 over Sullivan. The Eagles are now 3-5 on the season.
