Bulldogs, Cisne Nab Volleyball Wins, Altamont, SE/B'town Fall

Effingham St. Anthony High School opened the volleyball season with a 25-18, 25-16 win over South Central Thursday evening.

Leading the Bulldogs were Lauren Wendt and Maggie Mumm with five kills each, Megan Nuxoll with two aces and seven digs and Hailey Mathis with 17 assists.

The Bulldogs junior varsity also won 18-25, 25-19, 25-20.

At St. Anthony

Varsity Match

St. Anthonny -- Wortman, 3 digs; Mathis, 2 kills, 2 digs, 17 assists; Wendt, 5 kills; Schmidt, 1 kill, 1 assist; Braunecker, 1 kill, 2 digs, 1 block; Mumm, 1 ace, 5 kills, 2 digs; Nuxoll, 2 aces, 4 kills, 7 digs; Schultz, 1 ace, 4 digs

 

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Carlyle and won the opener 25-23 before Carlyle came back with 25-22, 25-23 scores for the match victory.

Alwardt led in kills with 10 while Wendling had 14 assists. Ledbetter led in digs with seven and White had five aces. The Indians drop to 2-1.

In junior varsity play, Carlyle won 25-12, 24-26, 25-17.

At Altamont

At Cisne

Cisne had a school record broken and one tied in a victory over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield in varsity action Thursday evening.

Cisne won 25-12 before NCOE came back with a 25-21 win. Cisne then went out at 25-19. Brandae Gill broke the school record for assists with 31 while Meg Sitzes tied a school record in digs with 32. Chynna Byers had 15 kills and Nicole Jordan five aces.

NCOE won the junior varsity match 25-17, 22-25, 25-23.

 

At Vandalia

Vandalia defeated St. Elmo/Brownstown in three games. Vandalia won the opener 25-18 but St. Elmo/Brownstown came back to take the next game 25-23. Vandalia then won the final contest 25-23.

G. Moore led Brownstown/St. Elmo in kills with six and digs with 18. M. Walk had 18 assists.
