South Central played host to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and handed the Hatchets their first National Trail Conference volleyball loss Monday.

WSS won the opening set, 25-21 but South Central rallied to take the second set 25-23. The Cougars then claimed the contest with a 25-18 third set.

The Cougars were led by Brooklyn Garrett with 13 kills and 13 digs, Sierra Arnold with four aces, Olivia Brauer with 17 assists and Brooke Cowger and Emma Jenne with three blocked shots each.

South Central is 12-5 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Halle Moomaw with four aces, one solo block and nine kills, Ella Kinkelaar with 24 assists and Kinley Quast with 23 digs. 

"We definitely didn't play our game tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "South Central came to fight and we should have risen to the challenge and didn't."

The Hatchets drop to 3-1 in the conference, 7-5 overall and return to action today against Neoga.

Windsor/Stew-Stras won the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-19 to improve to 9-1. South Central dropped to 6-2.

The freshman contest was split. WSS won 25-23 and South Central won 25-22. WSS is now 5-2-4 on the season and South Central 0-3-3.

At Greenville

Teutopoils  was a winner in varsity action against Greenville Monday.

The Wooden Shoes took the match in two sets, 25-18, 26-24.

Emily Konkel led the way for the Shoes with 12 kills and two blocks. Katie Kremer had 10 kills. Sara Niemerg led in digs with 20. Sara Swingler led in assists with 16. Summer Wall had three aces.

"It was a good night for Katie Kremer and Emily Konkel hitting," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "We got good aggressive swings and the sets necessary for those to take place. We spent time after Thursday night's match working on a couple things and at least against Greenville we were successful. I always appreciate the hustle these girls put in, every practice, every match. Now it's a quick turnaround as we drive to Pana tomorrow night.

"The key to the match was Greenville was unable to counter the hitting of senior Katie Kremer making her first start of the year. Kremer was able to side out twice in the second set to end Greenville runs which tied the game."

T-town also won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-17. Greenville claimed the freshman/sophomore contest, 13-21, 21-15, 15-11.

Moweaqua Central A&M swept Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in volleyball action Monday evening.

A&M won the varsity match, 25-17, 19-25, 25-12. CHBC dropped to 7-11 on the season.

Leading CHBC were Karlee Smith with seven kills and two aces, Gracie Heckert with two aces and nine digs, Madison Wojcik with two aces and eight assists, Kyleigh Wallace with wo aces and three blocks.

In the junior varsity match, Central A&M won 25-6, 26-28, 15-7 and also won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-16, 25-19.

At Cowden

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a victory over Casey-Westfield Monday.

The Eagles were winners, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22. Morgan Hall led the way in kills with 12 while Laney Baldrige had 10. Hall also led in digs with 17 and had 13 points. Jayna Ireland had four blocked shots.

North Clay (Louisville) was a winner over Dieterich Monday evening.

The Cardinals won 25-17, 25-7 to improve to 4-0 in the National Trail Conference and 17-4 overall.

North Clay also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-20 and the freshman/sopomore contest, 25-7, 25-17.

 

At Patoka

Patoka won over Clay City, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19 Monday.

Leading Clay City were Sammie Craig with 10 kills and 14 digs and Taylor Pittman with 10 blocks and three aces.
