MARSHALL -- Effingham St. Anthony tallied victories over Marshall in high school volleyball Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs won 26-24, 25-14 in varsity action. Lucy Fearday led in kills with six. Andrea Rudolphi had five aces and one blocked shot. Anna Faber, Anna Niemeyer and Sophia Speagle had one blocked shot each. Addie Wernsing led in assists with nine. Maddie Kibler had seven digs.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-21, 25-10.

At Marshall

At Effingham

Effingham tallied an Apollo Conference victory over Charleston Thursday.

The Hearts won 25-13, 25-16. Bria Beals led in kills with six and aces with 10. Berkley Pullen had seven assists. Raegan Boone had two blocked shots and four digs. Angela Ballman had four digs.

The Hearts also claimed the junior varsity match, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9 but fell in freshman/sophomore play, 6-21, 21-16, 15-14.

EHS is back in action Saturday in the Charleston Tournament.

At Martinsville

Dieterich came out the winner over Martinsville in three sets Thursday evening.

The Movn' Maroons won the opener 25-22 but Martinsville came back with a 25-19 count in the second set. Dieterich then won the match 25-19.

Breanna Shull, Olivia Brummer and Marli Michel had one ace each for the winners while Brummer led in digs with eight. Michl led in kills with 15. Ella Kreke had 25 assists. Ruby Westendorf had two blocks.

In junior varsity play, Martinsville was a winner, 25-13, 21-25, 25-15.

At Teutopolis

Neoga handed Teutopolis a loss in varsity action Thursday. The Indians won 28-26 but T-town came back with a 25-20 tally. Neoga then took the match, 25-23.

"We struggled in practice with our serve-receive and defense yesterday and I forgot to knock on wood and sure enough, it happened tonight," said T-town Coach Jim Dietz. "Neoga's serves blasted us off the court as we wound up aced a dozen times in addition to the balls passed out of system. Ultimately, that's my fault. Sometimes I'm pretty patient with making adjustments and tonight, just poor coaching on my part, so now we just have to regroup and get ready for next week's matches."

Neoga was led in kills by Sydney Richards with 10 and digs with 16.  Haylee Campbel had four blocked shots. Natalie O'Dell led in assists with 13. Klowee Conder had five aces.

T-town was led by Sara Niemerg with eight kills and three aces, TaNeal Einhorn, Sydney Huber and Emily Konkel with two blocks each, Summer Wall with nine digs and Sara Zumbahlen with 14 assists. The Shoes drop to 7-11 on the season.

T-town won the junior varsity match, 27-25, 25-17 and the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-20, 25-20, 15-12.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown won the opening set over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 25-20 but the Hatchets came back with 25-15, 25-17 counts for the victory Thursday.

"We struggled early on with communication and serve receive," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We finally settled down and played volleyball. We just had so many unforced errors tonight. Gabby and Halle really came through for us in the second and third sets. Then we had lots of really strong hits."

Gabby Vonderheide had 16 kills and Halle Moomaw 14 in the win. Ainslie Eident led in aces with four. Vonderheide had 17 digs. Ella Kinkelaar led in assists with 26. Moomaw and Ellie Wittenberg had four block assists each. The Hatchets improved to 7-4 overall and return to action Monday at South Central.

SEB was led by Laney Baldrige with five kills, seven digs and six points, Peyton Garrard with five aces and Jayne Ireland with two blocked shots.

Windsor/Stew-Stras took the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-14 to improve to 5-1. The Hatchets also nabbed the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-17, 25-22 and improved to 5-2-3.

Newton improved to 11-5 on the season with a victory over  Casey-Westfield Thursday.

The Eagles won 25-16, 25-11 and stand at 1-0 in the Little Illini Conference. Schafer led in aces with two and assists with 21. Rauch had five kills. Kessler had one blocked shots. Bennett led in digs with eight.

Newton also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-10.

North Clay (Louisville) won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.

In varsity action, the Cardinals were 25-7, 25-10 winners. The Cardinals are 3-0 in the National Trail Conference, 11-4 overall.

CHBC was led in kills by Gracie Heckert, Madison Wojcik, Karlee Smith and Kyleigh Wallace with one each. Wojcik had three assists. Smith had one block. Birgen Schlanser led in digs with seven. CHBC drops to 6-7 on the season.

In junior varsity play, the Bobcats won 25-16, 25-20 to improve to 2-7. North Clay took the freshman/sophomore match, 25-9, 25-15. CHBC dropped to 1-3-2.
