Stewardson Trinity claimed the championship of the Newton St. Thomas Seventh-Grade Volleyball Tournament Saturday and also won the eighth-grade tournament the weekend before.

In the seventh-grade meet, Trinity downed Effingham St. Anthony, 25-11, 25-13 and won over Dieterich, 25-8, 25-7. Trinity then claimed the tourney with a win over Paris Crestwood, 27-25, 25-10, 15-7.

Trinity fell to Sigel St. Michael in seventh- and eighth-grade action Friday.

St. Michael won the seventh-grade match, 25-14, 17-25, 25-21 and dropped to 5-1. In eighth-grade play, St. Michael was a winner, 11-25, 25-19, 25-14 and fell to 7-1.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis handed Mattoon losses in both matches Friday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade encounter, 25-13, 25-12 and improved to 6-2.

In the eighth-grade match, T-town was a 25-17, 25-15 winner and is now 7-1.

At Patoka

South Central picked up two victories in action against Patoka Friday.

South Central claimed the seventh-grade match, 21-6, 21-3 and is now 5-3.

In the eighth-grade match, South Central won 26-24, 25-23 and is now 6-2.
