SEB Wins EIC Tourney Crown; Area Volleyball Roundup

St. Elmo/Brownstown High School claimed the championship of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday evening.

The Eagles took on Martinsville and tallied wins in two sets, 25-13, 25-15 for the match.

Laney Baldrige and Morgan Hall led the way for the Eagles in kills with nine each. Baldrige had 13 digs, one blocked shot and 10 points. Hall had 10 digs and nine points. Peyton Garrard led in aces with five and scored seven points.

In the third place match, Patoka downed Ramsey. The Rams took the opener 27-25 but Patoka rallied for 25-21, 25-14 counts and the match.

Fifth place went to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City over Mulberry Grove. Mulberry Grove was a 25-23 winner in the first set. The Bobcats then came back with 25-9, 25-13 scores for the match.

CHBC was led by Tatyana Duckwitz with 14 kills, four aces, one blocked shot and 12 digs. Raechelle Kelly led in assists with 11. Kyleigh Wallace had one block.

At Louisville

Effingham St. Anthony tallied a win over North Clay (Louisville) Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs won 25-16, 25-8 and finished the NTC season with a 6-2 record and stands at 23-7 overall.

Lucy Fearday led St. Anthony in kills with 10 while Addie Wernsing had four aces and eight points. Ada Rozene had three blocks, Anna Faber 22 assists, Maddie Kibler 12 points and Abbi Hatton eight points.

The Bulldogs also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 19-25, 15-13.

St. Anthony finishes out regular season play Saturday at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational.

At Louisville

Varsity Match

At Centralia

South Central improved to 25-6 on the season with a non-conference win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday in the final regular season match before regionals.

The Cougars were led by Halle Smith with 15 kills and two aces, Olivia Brauer with 12 assists, Brooklyn Garrett with 10 digs and two aces, Sierra Arnold with two aces and one block and Zada Reynolds with two aces.

In the junior varsity match, South Central was a winner 25-18, 25-12. The Cougars end at 15-1.

At Centralia

South Central -- Smith, 15 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs; Reynolds, 2 kills, 9 assists, 2 aces, 3 digs; Arnold, 2 aces, 5 digs, 1 block; Brauer, 1 kill, 12 assists, 3 digs; Garrett, 2 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs; Cowger, 6 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs; Runge, 1 dig

 

At Paris

Newton High School ended the regular season with a victory over Paris Thursday.

The Eagles won 25-11, 25-12 and sports a 29-6 record. Bennett led in digs with 12 and aces with three while Ochs had seven kills and one block, Johnson one block and Schafer 22 assists.

In junior varsity play, Newton was a winner 25-11, 25-17 and in the freshman/sophomore contest, 25-18, 25-6.

At Paris

 At Centralia

Teutopolis fell in varsity competition but won the junior varsity match Thursday over Centralia.

In the varsity match, Centralia picked up the win, 25-13, 25-11.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Macy Swingler in digs with six, Tia Probst with four assists and Jaden Deters, Sydnee Huber, Emily Konkel and Probst with one kill each.

T-town won the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-16. The two teans split the freshman contest. Centralia won the first set, 27-25 but T-town came back with a 25-18 count.

The Wooden Shoes finish out regular season play Saturday at Robertson Charter School with a match against Taylorville at 10 a.m. and a match against the host school at 1 p.m.
