Bulldogs Claim Victory, Volleyball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony downed Dieterich in both varsity and junior varsity volleyball competition Monday.

The Bulldogs tallied 25-5, 25-15 wins to improve to 5-1 in the National Trail Conference and 16-5 overall.

Ada Rozene and Lucy Fearday led in the kill department with nine each. Maddie Kibler served up four aces and scored 21 points. Rozene also led in blocks with two. Anna Faber led in assists with 26.

In the junior varsity match, St. Anthony was a 25-4, 25-14 winner.

At Cowden

Martinsville came calling and won the varsity match over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday.

The Bluestreaks claimed the contest, 25-22, 25-22. Leading CHBC were Tatyana Duckwitz with 10 kills, Madison Wojcik with three aces and eight points, Raechelle Kelly with 10 assists and Gracie Heckert with 14 digs.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-19.

Little Prairie Conference Tournament

Cumberland claimed a victory in opening round play of the Little Prairie Conference Tournament Monday.

The Pirates defeated Okaw Valley. Okaw Valley won the opener 25-22 but the Pirates came back strong with 25-22, 25-17 counts for the win.

In other matches, Villa Grove defeated Cerro Gordo-Bement, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23; Tri-County won over Arcola, Heritage defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, LSA downed Villa Grove and Blue Ridge beat Tri-County.

The tournament continues today. In loser bracket play, Okaw Valley faces Arcola and ALAH takes on Cerro Gordo-Bement, both at 5 p.m. while Tri-County takes on the winner of the ALAH vs. CGB contest at 6 and Villa Grove meets the winner of the Okaw Valley vs. Arcola match at 7. In winner bracket action, Cumberland faces LSA at 6 p.m. and Blue Ridge takes on Heritage at 7.

The finals are scheduled for Thursday with the consolation championship at 5, the third place contest at 6 and the championship at 7.
