St. Anthony Improves Conference Mark, Volleyball Scores

ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony improved to 4-1 in the National Trail Conference by defeating Altamont, 25-22, 25-14 Tuesday evening in high school volleyball action.

Ada Rozene led the Bulldogs with eight kills, two aces and seven points while Anna Faber had 20 assists. Lucy Fearday had one block.

Altamont was led by Ellie McManaway with eight digs and 18 assists. Della Berg had two blocks. Ella Ruffner led in kills with nine.

In the junior varsity match, St. Anthony was a winner, 25-14, 25-23. The Bulldogs and Indians split in freshman/sophomore play. St Anthony won 25-13 while Altamont was a 25-21 winner.

At Mount Zion

Effingham took the opening set in an Apollo Conference contest against Mount Zion Tuesday but the Braves came back to win the varsity match.

The Hearts won 25-22. Mount Zion came back with 25-20, 25-20 counts for the victory.

Lexi Chrappa led the Hearts in kills with 10. Tori Budde had 15 assists and an ace. Kennedy Sowell and Krista Phillips had four blocks each. Sawyer Althoff led in digs with 14.

The Hearts claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-23, 25-12. Mount Zion was a winner in freshman/sophomore play, 21-15, 21-11.

EHS will be back in action Thursday hosting Taylorville.

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell in the opening set but came back strong to take the match win over Oblong Tuesday.

Oblong was a 30-28 winner. The Eagles then claimed the next two sets, 25-17, 25-18.

Morgan Hall led the winners in kills with nine and points with 10. Peyton Garrard had 16 assists and 15 digs. Shelby Sasse led in aces with four. Laney Baldrige and Hall had two blocked shots each.

At St. Elmo

Dieterich handed Teutopolis a loss in varsity action Tuesday evening.

The Movin' Maroons were winners, 25-13, 25-22. Emily Hall led the team in aces with two. Marli Michel had nine kills. Alli Schmidt had 12 assists. Olivia Brummer led in digs with 10. Breanna Shull had one blocked shot.

T-town was led by Sara Niemerg with six digs, Emily Konkel with three blocks, Molly Pals with four kills, two aces and four points and Danielle Probst with eight assists.

T-town claimed the junior varsity match, 25-7, 25-5.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg played host to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and picked up a National Trail Conference win Tuesday.

The Hatchets won 25-17, 25-16 to improve to 6-0 in the conference, 12-3 overall.

Ella Kinkelaar led the Hatchets in assists with 19. Gabby Vonderheide had six kills, seven digs and one solo block. Kinley Quast led in aces with three. Brianna Hewing had one solo block.

CHBC (6-12) was led by Tatyana Duckwitz with five kills while Madison Wojcik had two aces and four points. Raechelle Kelly led in assists with five and digs with six. Karlee Smith had two blocks.

WSS claimed the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-21. The Hatchets improve to 5-1 in the conference, 10-3 overall. The two teams split freshman/sophomore wins. CHBC took the opener 25-23. WSS came back to win 25-17 and is now 11-6-2.

Newton claimed a victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in varsity volleyball action Tuesday.

The Eagles won 25-13, 25-9 and improved to 15-3 on the season. Schafer led the team in assists with nine and aces with five. Kessler had four kills and one block. Oldham had a block. Bennett led in digs with five.

Newton also captured the junior varsity match, 25-13, 25-19.

At Bridgeport

Woodlawn tallied a victory over Clay City in Tuesday evening action, 25-13, 25-14.

Clay City was led by Taylor Pittman with seven kills and 12 blocks. Hailey Miller had one ace. Keidra Kuenstler led in digs with 14.

In junior varsity play, Woodlawn claimed the win, 25-19, 25-14.
