EHS, Newton, Altamont, WSS, S. Central Nab Volleyball Wins

Effingham HIgh School claimed an Apollo Conference victory over Taylorville in volleyball action Saturday.

The Hearts won in two sets, 25-21, 25-20. Samantha Urch led the Hearts in kills with eight and blocks with four. Krista Phillips also had four blocks. Tori Budde had nine assists. Leading in aces was Jacy Boatman with four. Morgan Hagler led EHS in digs with six.

In the junior varity contest, Taylorville was a winner, 25-17, 22-25, 15-10.

At Newton

Newton swept Mount Carmel in Saturday competition.

The Eagles won the varsity match, 25-20, 25-19. Chapman led in assists with 18. B. Johnson had six kills. Ochs had four blocks. Parr led in digs with 11. The Eagles improve to 6-5 on the season.

In the junior varsity contest, Newton was a 27-25, 25-15 winner. The Eagles also claimed the freshman match, 25-13, 25-14.

At Lincoln

Teutopolis traveled to Lincoln and dropped a varsity match.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the opening set, 25-22. But Lincoln came back with 25-17, 25-11 counts for the match.

T-town was led by Abby Niemerg with two blocks, Macy Swingler with nine digs and seven points, Carly Michels with 15 kills and Hannah Rodgers with 12 assists.

T-town also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-10, 25-18 but won the freshman contest, 18-21, 21-14, 15-14.

The Wooden Shoes host Charleston Monday.

Dieterich dropped both junior varsity and varsity contests to host Robinson Saturday.

The Movin' Maroons fell in the varsity match, 25-8, 25-11. Gabriella Hardiek and Emily Bloemer led in kills with four each. Bloemer led in assists with six and digs with 11. Iva Lilly had one block.

In the junior varsity match, Robinson was a winner, 25-17, 25-19.

At Altamont

Altamont improved its record to 11-2 on the season with a win over Palestine/Hutsonville Friday.

The Indians won 27-25, 25-8. Tappendorf led the winners in kills with seven while Eckhardt and Pemberton had six digs each, Runge and Eckhardt had two aces each. McManaway had 21 assists.

Altamont also captured the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-10 and now sports a 10-3 record.

At Martinsville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored a victory over Martinsville in a non-conference contest, 25-10, 25-23 Friday.

The Hatches were led by Gabby Vonderheide in aces with four, Hannah Hayes in kills with six, digs with eight and assists with eight and Lexi Domzalski with eight assists. Halle Moomaw had one solo block and one block assist.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 8-2 on the season and returns to action Monday hosting South Central.

In junior varsity play, WSS lost the opening set 27-25 but came back with 25-18, 25-20 wins to remain unbeaten at 10-0.

At Martinsville

South Central was a winner in both varsity and junior varsity action Friday.

The Cougars won the varsity contest, 25-9, 25-8 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Sydnee Garrett led the squad in kills with eight. Madyson Magnus had eight assists. Zada Reynolds led in aces with seven. Olivia Brauer had eight digs.

In the junior varsity match, South Central won 25-5, 25-13 and is now 7-4.

At Sandoval

At St. Elmo

Patoka came calling and left a winner over St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday.

Patoka won the opener 25-22 before SEB came back with a 25-22 win. But Patoka too the match with the exact same 25-22 score.

Morgan Hall and Jo Strauch led SEB in kills with eight each. Peyton Garrard had 16 assists and 16 digs. Lillian Nolan and Lydia Smith had three aces each. Hall had four blocked shots and 10 points.

At St. Elmo
