Eighth-grade volleyball regionals got underway Saturday around the state.

Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional

Windsor opened the three-match Sacred Heart Regional with a victory. Windsor defeated Sigel St. Michael 25-18, 25-18. Windsor advances to face West Salem Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

In the second match, Effingham Sacred Heart defeated Stewardson-Strasburg 25-10, 25-13.

The third match went to Dieterich over Newton St. Thomas 25-17, 25-15.

Dieterich and Sacred Heart square off at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winners of the Tuesday contests meet at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Class 8-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Hutsonville opened Saturday with a victory over Oblong. Hutsonville lost the opener 27-25 but came back with 25-22, 25-18 victories.

In the second match, Edwards County defeated Altamont 25-15, 25-23.

The third match went to Effingham St. Anthony over Hutsonville 25-13, 25-16.

St. Anthony and Edwards County will square off for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Class 8-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional

Arcola defeated Ramsey in the opening match 25-10, 25-14. Arcola now faces Neoga at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

In the second match, Nokomis defeated Findlay Okaw Valley 25-19, 25-19. Nokomis advances to face Arthur at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The winners Tuesday advance to the Thursday championship match.

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

St. Elmo and Jasper County advanced in the first round of the Teutopolis Regional.

St. Elmo defeated Cowden-Herrick 25-22, 25-16. Jasper County was a 25-19, 25-10 winner over Teutopolis.

St. Elmo then faced Vandalia and fell 25-21, 25-12. Jasper County squared off against Cumberland. Jasper County won the opener 25-15 but Cumberland came back to take the match 25-23, 25-17.

Vandalia and Cumberland will meet for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

Regular Season

St. Peter Lutheran captured the championship of the Iuka Tournament during the weekend.

St. Peter defeated Willow Grove, 25-12, 25-23 then won over Central City, 25-20, 25-17. St. Peter defeated Iuka, 25-21, 26-24. St. Peter now sports a 16-1 record.
