Altamont Junior High School captured the championship of the Class 7-2A Effingham St. Anthony Volleyball Regional Wednesday.

 

The Wildcats tallied a victory over Findlay Okaw Valley but had to go three sets. Okaw Valley won the opener 25-22. But Altamont came back strong with 25-18, 25-19 sets for the win.

Altamont now sports a 17-6 record and advances to the Okaw Valley Sectional Monday, March 9 and will take on the winner of the Edwards County (Albion) Regional, either Albion or North Clay (Louisville). Those two teams play tonight for the championship.

Championship

Class 7-3A Macon Meridian Regional

Cumberland fell in the championship match of the Macon Meridian Regional Wednesday.

The host squad, Macon Meridian, won in two sets, 25-17, 25-17.

Macon Meridian now advances to the Casey-Westfield Sectional and will face the winner of the Paris Mayo Regional Monday at 6:30 p.m. Jasper County and Casey-Westfield play for that regional championship tonight at 6:30.

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Championship -- Stewardson-Strasburg vs. Newton St. Thomas, 6 p.m.

Class 7-1A Decatur Lutheran Regional

Match 4 -- Decatur Lutheran vs. Windsor, 5 p.m.

Match 5 -- Decatur Holy Family vs. Decatur Garfield Montessori, 6 p.m.

Match 6 (championship) -- Winner Match 4 vs. Winner Match 5, 7 p.m.

Class 7-2A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Championship -- North Clay (Louisville) vs. Edwards County (Albion), 6:15 p.m.

Class 7-3A Paris Mayo Regional

Championship -- Jasper County vs. Casey-Westfield, 6:30 p.m.

 

At New Hope

In regular season action, Clay City handed New Hope losses in seventh and eighth-grade play Wednesday.

Clay City won the junior varsity contest, 25-18, 25-23 and then claimed the varsity match 25-12, 25-15. Clay City is now 12-2 on the season and 8-0 in WEAA play.

The two teams split the C match. Clay City won 26-24 while New Hope claimed a 25-23 victory.

Clay City is back in action Friday hosting Odin at 4 p.m.
