WSS Downs St. Anthony, Area Volleyball Roundup

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 25-14, 25-18 National Trail Conference volleyball win over Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday.

The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-14, 25-18. Mackinzee Reynolds led the team in kills with eight. Anna Schlechte had 11 digs. Lexi Domzalski led in assists with 11.

"I feel like we are finally clicking," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We are getting more consistent with all skills and we are really playing as a team. Hopefully, we can keep our heads on at the Shelby/Pana Tournament this weekend."

The Bulldogs were led by Lucy Fearday and Ada Rozene with three kills each. Rozene had two aces. Kyra Swearingen had 10 assists. Kate Hartke, Taylor Quandt and Rozene scored four points each. The Rockets are 7-1 in the conference, 10-7 overall.

WSS took the junior varsity match 25-13, 16-25, 25-23 to improve to 7-1 in the conference, 11-4 overall.

In freshman/sophomore play, WSS won 25-9, 25-19 and is 6-12.

At St. Elmo

Altamont continued to remain atop the National Trail Conference by downing St. Elmo/Brownstown, 25-14, 25-20 Tuesday.

The Indians sport an 8-0 conference mark and an 18-2 overall record.

Jackman led the squad in kills with 12 and blocks with two. McManaway had 25 assists. Mette led in digs with seven and had one ace while Eckahrdt also had one ace.

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-21. Altamont drops to 10-10.

At Wayne City

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a non-conference win over Wayne City Tuesday evening. The Cardinals lost the opener 25-21 but came back strong with back-to-back 25-20 victories.

In the junior varsity match, Wayne City was the winner, 22-25, 25-11, 15-12.

 

At Newton

Newton pushed its record to 17-3 on the season by downing Flora Tuesday evening, 25-18, 25-11.

Probst led in kills with 12 while Hemrich had 20 assists. Jansen led in aces with four. Ochs was strong at the net with three blocks. Geltz had seven digs.

The Eagles also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-16, 25-16 and a freshman match, 25-17, 25-17.

At Newton

At Teutopolis

Vandalia came calling and downed Teutopolis in two sets, 25-23, 25-19 in Tuesday action.

Holly Heuerman led the Wooden Shoes in digs with 10.  Kelsey Deters and Lexie Niebrugge had four digs each. Erica Michels led in kills with nine. Deters led in assists with nine.

Vandalia also nabbed the junior varsity match, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19. T-town won the freshman contest, 25-16, 25-20.

At Teutopolis

At Sullivan

Sullivan picked up the opening set win 25-23 before Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came back with a 25-20 count. The two squads then battled it out in the final set with Sullivan coming out the winner, 25-17.

CHBC drops to 9-11-1 on the season. Tatyana Duckwitz led in kills with nine. Abby Sloan, Zaryah Smith and Lauren Wojcik had two aces each. Kirsten Schick had one block. Kylee Bertin led in assists with 14.

CHBC won the junior varsity match, 23-25, 26-24, 15-6.

At Sullivan

Mulberry Grove captured the varsity match over host Clay City in two sets, 25-6, 25-16.

In the junior varsity contest, Clay City was a winner, 25-9, 25-9.
