EHS, SEB, Altamont, WSS, Clay City Nab Volleyball Wins

Effingham High School picked up a volleyball victory over Mahomet-Seymour Tuesday evening. The Hearts tallied a 25-12 opening set win and then took the match 25-17.

Olivia Martin led the Hearts in digs with 11. Hayley Dively had 19 assists. Kennedy Sowell picked up two blocks. Alexis Chrappa led in kills with nine. Jacy Boatman and Callie Feldhake had an ace each.

The Hearts move to 10-7 on the season and are back in action Thursday at Mattoon.

In junior varsity play, Mahomet-Seymour was the winner, 25-21, 25-22. In the freshman contest, Effingham won 21-17, 10-21, 15-12.

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Effingham St. Anthony Tuesday.

St. Anthony won the opener 25-23 but the Eagles came back with a 25-23 second set win. SEB then took the match, 25-17.

With strong play at the net, SEB was led by Vayda Smith with nine kills. Emma Gathe had six kills while Natalie Oberlink and Kalea Yagow had five each. Gathe led in aces with three. Katelyn Maxey had 20 digs. Smith led in points with 10.

The Bulldogs were led by Taylor Ritz with eight kills, Ada Rozene with two aces, Kyra Swearingen with 17 assists and 14 points.

St. Anthony claimed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20. SEB won the freshman contest, 25-19, 25-17.

At St. Elmo

At Cowden

Altamont remained unbeaten on the season and in the National Trail Conference by downing Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Tuesday.

The Indians won 25-8, 25-17 and stands at 5-0 in the conference, 12-0 overall.

Jackman led in kills with 10. McManaway had 23 assists. Pemberton had five aces. Three players had five digs each, Pemberton, Jackman and Mette.

CHBC was led by Lauren Wojcik with three kills, Zaryah Smith with three aces and Abby Sloan with four assists.

At Cowden

At Neoga

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pushed its National Trail Conference record to 4-1 and it's overall mark to 5-6 with a win over Neoga Tuesday.

WSS won in two sets, 25-10, 25-21. Natalie Hayes led in aces with two while Hannah Hayes led in kills with eight. Lexi Domzalski had 12 assists. H. Hayes and Anna Schlechte had four digs each.

"We played with a different rotation tonight to see if we can get out of our slump," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "This is something I plan to work on and use as an option in the future. Claire Moomaw had a big night, putting down six out of six hits."

WSS also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-17 to improve to 4-1 in the conference, 8-3 overall. The Hatchets freshmen were also winners. Neoga took the opener, 25-19 but WSS came back with 25-6, 15-9 scores for the win and is now 4-5-1.

At Clay City

Clay City handed Wayne City a varsity loss in action Tuesday, 25-16, 25-19.

The Wolves were led by Hailey Miller with six aces, Elaine Kessler with two aces and Malorie Craig with seven kills.

The Clay City junior varsity also won, 25-10, 25-16. Leading server was Jaelynn Sebring with five aces.

 

At Teutopolis

Pana came calling and downed Teutopolis in varsity competition Tuesday.

The Panthers won in two sets, 25-14, 25-19. The Wooden Shoes were led by Holly Heuerman with six digs, Kelsey Deters with five assists, Carly Michels with four kills, Erica Michels with six digs and four kills and Ciara Repking with six points.

Pana also nabbed the junior varsity match, 21-25, 25-20, 27-25.

The Panthers claimed the freshman contest, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10.

At Teutopolis

Dieterich fell to Robinson in Tuesday action. Robinson won the varsity match, 25-20, 25-17.

Dieterich was led by Gabby Hardiek with four kills and six assists, Kaitlyn Boerngen with five aces and 12 digs and Iva Lilly with two blocks.

Robinson also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-11.
