EHS Drops Match, St. A Wins, Volleyball Roundup

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School headed to Taylorville for volleyball competition Tuesday evening and suffered an Apollo Conference loss.

The Tornadoes won 25-16, 26-24. EHS drops to 3-1 on the season.

Leading the Hearts were Hayley Dively with 10 assists, Alexis Chrappa with seven kills and seven digs, Olivia Martin with eight digs and Sam Urch and Jacy Boatman with an ace each.

Taylorville claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-15, 25-16. EHS drops to 3-4. In freshmen action, the Tornadoes won 21-14, 21-17. The Hearts are 1-2-1.

Effingham St. Anthony picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Neoga Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won 25-21, 25-18. Lucy Fearday and Ada Rozene had six kills each. Fearday and Kyra Swearingen had two aces each. Swearingen led in assists with 19 and scored six points. Elizabeth Kabbes also tallied six points.

Neoga was led by Haley Stodden with 15 digs, Olivia Titus with five kills, Trista Moore with three blocks and Elizabeth Titus with nine assists.

Neoga claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14. St. Anthony captured the freshman match, 25-15, 25-16.

South Central captured a victory over Dieterich in National Trail Conference play Tuesday.

The Cougars tallied 25-20, 25-14 counts for the varsity win.'

Dieterich was led by Emily Bloemer with five kills and seven assists, Alli Schmidt with two aces and Kaitlyn Boerngen with eight digs.

South Central also nabbed the junior varsity match, 26-24, 25-18.

Altamont played host to North Clay (Louisville) in a National Trail Conference match and took the varsity victory, 25-18, 25-11.

North Clay was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-23, 14-25, 27-25.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis handed Sullivan a loss in action Tuesday, 25-13, 25-8.

Kelsey Deters led in assists with 17. Carly Michels had 10 points. Erica Michaels led in kills with eight. Holly Heuerman and Ciara Repking led in digs with four each.

The junior varsity match also went to the Wooden Shoes, 25-11, 25-21 and the freshman match, 25-18, 25-11.

At Teutopolis

St. Elmo/Brownstown handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a National Trail Conference loss in two sets, 25-22, 25-21 Tuesday.

SEB  was led by Vayda Smith with six kills and seven points, Kalea Yagow with two aces and Katelyn Maxey with 13 digs.

CHBC was led by Zaryah Smith with four kills and two aces, Kylee Bertin and Abby Sloan with six assists each and Jacque Witteborg with 17 digs.

SEB also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-19.

At St. Elmo

Cumberland dropped a varsity match to Blue Ridge in action Thursday, 25-23, 25-14.

Leading the Pirates were Tayler McMechan with 10 assists and five kills and Ivy Ayers with 15 digs.

Cumberland captured the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-10 to improve to 4-1.

Clay City picked up a varsity victory over Red Hill (Bridgeport) in action Thursday.

The Wolves won in two sets, 25-21, 25-12.

"We had amazing kills and blocks by Gracie Warren, Hailey MiIler and Malorie Craig," said Clay City Coach Tiffany Kuenstler.

Clay City also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-15, 25-11.
