St. Anthony Advances To Class 8-2A State

St. Anthony is headed to the Class 8-2A State Volleyball Tournament. LOUISVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony is headed to State.

The Bullpups captured the championship of the Class 8-2A North Clay (Louisville) Volleyball Sectional Monday evening.

St. Anthony handed South Central a loss but the match went three sets. The Bullpups won the opener 25-14 but South Central came back strong with a 25-15 second set victory. St. Anthony then went out with a 25-22 count.

St. Anthony improved to 17-8 on the season and will now head to the Class 8-2A State Tournament at Auburn High School Friday.

The Bullpups take on Peoria Heights St. Thomas (14-3) at 7 p.m. In opening play, Mendon Unity (16-6) faces Lexington (17-4) at 4:30 p.m. Mount Pulaski (23-4) meets Raymond Lincolnwood (17-2) at 5:45. The final match will have Gardner (19-3) against Kewanee Wethersfield (20-0) at 8:15 p.m.

The winners of matches one and two meet Saturday at 11 a.m. while the winners of matches three and four square off at 12:15 p.m. The third place match is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the championship at 3:15.

Class 8-1A Oakland Lake Crest Sectional

Sigel St. Michael saw its season come to a close in the Class 8-1A Oakland Lake Crest Sectional Monday.

The Sharpshooters fell to Findlay Okaw Valley, 25-23, 25-20.

Findlay Okaw Valley (16-3) improved to 16-3 and will head to the Class 8-1A State Tournament at Pana High School Friday at 5:45 p.m. against Pontiac S.t Mary's (23-1).
