St. Anthony, St. Thomas Advance To Seventh-Grade State

Effingham St. Anthony is going to State. The Bullpups won the Class 7-2A Paris Crestwood Volleyball Sectional Monday evening and will head to the state tournament this weekend.

St. Anthony claimed the opening set against North Clay (Louisville), 25-13. North Clay came back to take the second set, 25-19. The Bullpups then went out at 25-14.

St. Anthony improved to 17-17 on the season and will face Raymond Lincolnwood (23-5) at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Pawnee JHS/HS.

Class 2A Paris Crestwood Sectional

St. Anthony -- Rudolphi, 4 kills, 3 aces, 5 points; Kowalke, 2 aces, 10 points; Thoele, 1 ace, 2 points; Niebrugge, 2 kills, 2 points; M. Kibler, 3 kills, 2 aces, 2 points; Niemeyer, 7 kills, 3 aces, 5 points; S. Kibler, 2 kills, 5 aces, 11 points

 

Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Sectional

Newton St. Thomas came out the winner in the St. Michael Sectional Monday.

Hume Shiloh claimed the opening set, 25-19. But St. Thomas came back with 25-21, 25-21 counts to pull out the victory.

St. Thomas advances to the Class 7-1A State Tournament Friday with a 15-7 record and will meet DeLand-Weldon (17-4) at 7 p.m. at Lexington High School.

 

Class 7-4A Mattoon Sectional

Unfortunately for Effingham, the Mustangs did not advance to State but gave Urbana all it wanted Monday evening.

Effingham claimed the opening set, 25-23. But Urbana came back with the second set, 25-23 and then claimed the match with a 25-16 victory.

Effingham ended the season with a 16-7 record.

Class 7-4A Mattoon Sectional

Effingham -- Katt, 10 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, 2 blocks, 4 digs; Boone, 4 kills, 6 assists, 1 block, 5 digs; Borton, 1 assist, 2 aces, 6 digs; Kreke, 1 ace; McCoy, 4 kills, 3 assists, 6 digs; Ballman, 2 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, 8 digs; O'Dell, 2 kills, 10 assists, 1 ace, 4 digs; Rothrock, 1 kill

 

Class 7-3A Shelbyville Moulton Sectional

Shelbyville Moulton won before the home crowd over Robinson Nuttall Monday.

Nuttall claimed the opener 25-21 but Shelbyville Moulton came back with 25-23, 25-13 counts for the match.

Moulton advances with a 22-0 record to face Downs Tri-Valley (22-1) at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Decatur Lutheran School Association High School.
