Teutopolis claimed its first-ever regional championship.

MARSHALL -- Teutopolis High School claimed its first-ever volleyball regional championship by beating Tri-County (Kansas Co-op) at the Class 2A Marshall Regional Thursday evening.

Although the Wooden Shoes won, the first set was a close one and when the Shoes went on a run, Tri-County couldn't answer and fell 25-21. That set up the second set for a 25-16 victory and the first-ever regional title.

"Tonight was the complete team effort," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Our big hitters, Carly, Erica, Julia and Emma each contributed to the offense. And, Kansas couldn't handle our serves. Emma Deters completely dominated their serve receive.

"Kansas was up 13-6 in set one but Emma served us back into the lead. She had a couple aces but even when she wasn't hitting aces, we were getting freeballs and our hitters were pounding their defense. After Emma began serving, we outscored Kansas 19-3 to win set one.

"Set two was back and forth early but we slowly built a five point lead and Kansas couldn't close the gap. Erica Michels hit a booming kill to seal the deal and send us to our first-ever regional championship."
