Newton Beats T-town, WSS Wins, St. A Drops Volleyball Match

VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School dropped a volleyball loss to Vandalia in action Monday evening.

The Vandals won 25-23, 25-15 in varsity play. The Bulldogs were led by Meg Richards with six kills, Ada Rozene with three aces, Abby Stock with 16 assists and Sophie Moore and Rozene with six points each.

Vandalia also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-19 and a freshman match, 21-17, 21-11.

At Teutopolis

Newton tallied a victory over Teutopolis in action Monday evening. The Eagles won in two sets, 25-19, 25-23.

"We had a great match with Newton tonight," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "We knew they were going to play tenacious defense and they did. We had plenty of opportunities to score but just couldn't find the floor. We also made too many mistakes on serve receive."

Newton was led by Probst with eight kills, Hemrich with 17 assists, Kuhl with four blocks and Meinhart and Bierman with nine digs each. The Eagles improve to 18-8 on the season.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Carly Michels with five kills, Savannah Grimes with 15 digs and six assists. Julie Frye led in points with six while Kate Volk and Emma Deters had two blocks each.

T-town won the junior varsity match, 22-25, 25-18, 15-10. Newton claimed the freshman contest 9-25, 25-20, 10-4.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a win over Arcola, 25-13, 25-13 in action Monday.

Mackinzee Reynolds led in aces with five. Megan Schlechte led the way in kills with 11. Mackenzi Tabbert had 20 assists. Anna Schlechte led in digs with six.

WSS is now 20-4 on the season.

In junior varsity action, the Hatchets fell to Arcola, 27-25, 25-14. WSS drops to 12-5. In an exhibition match, WSS won 25-10, 25-20, 25-9.
