Shoes Beat Bulldogs, EHS Drops Match, Volleyball Scores

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School had quite an evening in volleyball competition Thursday.

Seniors on the Wooden Shoes volleyball squad wanted to do something in memory of their late classmate Elizabeth Waldhoff. The result was a benefit at Thursday's match. Funds raised will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, which was a help to Elizabeth's family during the time of her illness.

Total donation for the evening will be $2,335.13

Along with that, the Wooden Shoes won the varsity volleyball match, 25-12, 25-14, the junior varsity contest, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20 and a freshman contest, 25-15, 25-12.

"What an amazing night," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "The seniors did a great job organizing the fundraiser. A couple parents told me the silent auction was very successful. The attendance was awesome. The place was packed and the student section was rocking the gym. The atmosphere was phenominal.
 
"As for the match, well the stats tell a lot. Our servers were on and St. Anthony struggled on serve receive. Emma, Julia, Erica and Savannah had a total of 10 aces and only two errors in 43 service attempts. And Erica hit some rockets. She ended the night with nine kills. The biggest might have been the ball she hit to bring set No. 1 to an end. She simply destroyed an overpass. The student section went wild when the ball hit the floor.

Taylorville handed Effingham Apollo Conference losses in all three matches Thursday evening.

The Tornadoes won the varsity contest, 25-12, 25-16. EHS was led by Natalie Carie with six kills, Carsyn Fearday with 12 assists and Jacy Boatman with 11 digs.

In junior varsity play, Taylorville won 25-23, 25-8. The freshman/sophomore match went to the Tornadoes, 21-18, 21-11.

Altamont scored two victories over Dieterich in National Trail Conference play Thursday.

Altamont won the varsity match, 25-10, 25-18. Kuhns led the Indians in assists with 11. Mayhaus had five kills. Grimsley led in aces with 10.  Jackman had two blocks. The Indians are now 5-2 in the conference, 13-7 overall.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-13 and remains unbeaten at 10-0.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Neoga split matches in National Trail Conference play Thursday.

Neoga claimed the varsity contest, 25-17, 25-19.

Leading CHBC were Lauren Wojcik and Katlyn Johnson with five kills each, Johnson and Abby Sloan with five assists each and Zaryah Smith with 14 digs. Hailey Persinger had one ace. CHBC drops to 8-10 overall.

In the junior varsity match, CHBC won 25-18, 25-21.

At Neoga

At Louisville

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg remained unbeaten in the National Trail Conference by downing North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

The Hatchets won 25-12, 25-11 and now stand at 7-0 in the NTC and 14-3 overall.

Mackinzee Reynolds led in aces with six for the winners while Megan Schlechte had nine kills. Mackenzi Tabbert led in assists with 14. Carson Cole had seven digs.

In junior varsity action, WSS was a winner 15-25, 25-10, 16-14 and is 10-5.

Newton went two tough sets against Robinson but came out the winner in both, 26-24, 27-25 to improve to 14-4 on the season.

Geltz led in aces with three and digs with 16 for the Eagles. Probst had 14 kills and three blocks. Hemrich added 22 assists.

In the junior varsity match, Newton won 25-18, 21-25, 15-10. The freshman contest also went to the Eagles, 25-14, 25-18.
