Windsor/Stew-Stras Wins NTC Tournament

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchets captured the championship of the 2017 National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Windsor/Stew-Stras defeated St. Anthony in their first Gold Flight match 25-16, 25-14 and then defeated Altamont 25-12, 25-18. The Hatchets finished 4-0 in the tournament.

Coach Ronda Schlechte said, "The girls played well tonight. Megan Schlechte had a good night at the service line putting down seven aces against Altamont. The girls are showing more consistency in their passing, which makes our offense that much stronger." 

Windsor/Stew-Stras is now 23-4 on the season.

Altamont finished second in the Gold Flight, winning over St. Anthony 25-22, 25-19, and St. Anthony finished third. Altamont finished 3-1, St. Anthony ended 2-2.

Neoga finished first in the Silver Flight, defeating St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-19, 22-25, 25-22 and winning over South Central 25-18, 27-25. Neoga finished 3-1, South Central finished second, going 2-2 after defeating St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-19, 22-25, 25-22 and falling to Neoga 18-25, 25-27, and St. Elmo/Brownstown finished third, going 1-3.

North Clay finished first in the Bronze Flight, winning over CHBC 25-23, 26-24 and defeating Dieterich 25-18, 25-10 to finish 2-2. Dieterich finished second with the loss to North Clay and a win over CHBC 13-25, 25-23, 25-20 to go 1-3 in the tournament. CHBC finished third with the losses to North Clay and Dieterich to finish 0-4.

The NTC All-Tournament Team is made up of Tinley Mette of Altamont, Hannah Hunzinger of Dieterich, Lauren Wojcik of CHBC, Megan Schlechte of Windsor/Stew-Stras, Mary Hill of Neoga, Abby Stock of St. Anthony, Makenzie Walk of St. Elmo/Brownstown, Taylor Jones of North Clay, Miranda DeWitt of South Central, Maria Gentry of Windsor/Stew-Stras, Marci Mills of St. Anthony, and Kaitlyn Hoene of Altamont.
