WSS, Dieterich Claim Volleyball Victories

STRASBURG -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a fourth straight victory by downing Altamont 25-21, 25-17 in a National Trail Conference match Thursday.

The Hatchets were led by Mackenzi Tabbert with 23 assists and 11 digs, Megan Schlechte with 12 kills and Anna Schlechte with two aces.

"Passing was a struggle tonight which hurt our offense in game one," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We adjusted in game two and were able to put the ball down more. Calla Roney, who has been out with an injury, saw the floor tonight. Maria Gentry had a really good night with some strong hitting. Altamont did a really  nice job giving us great competition before heading to the Crossroads Classic."

The Hatchets are 2-0 in the conference, 4-0 overall.

At Strasburg

At  Patoka

Dieterich went to Patoka and fell in the opening set to host Patoka but came back for the victory Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons lost 26-24 but rallied in the next two sets to win 25-23 and 25-21. Lauren Garbe had 13 kills for the Maroons. Hannah Hunzinger had 16 assists and six aces. Nicole Flood had seven digs. Lauren Garbe had two blocks.

In junior varsity play Dieterich won 16-25, 25-18, 15-6.

At Patoka

At Newton

Newton fell to Edwards County (Albion) Thursday.

The Eagles took a 25-20 opening set victory, but Edwards County came back to claim a 25-19 win and then take the match with a 25-9 count.

Leading Newton were Frohning with 13 kills and four aces, Hemrich with 17 assists and Geltz with 11 digs.

Newton drops to 7-4 on the season.

In junior varsity play, Edwards County won 25-15, 20-25, 25-20. Newton won the freshman match 30-28 and 25-14.

At Clay City

South Central dropped a non-conference match to Clay City Thursday.

The Cougars won the opener 25-14 but Clay City came back with 25-23, 25-11 counts for the victory.

Leading South Central were Zoe Johnston with eight points and eight assists, Keely Smith with seven kills, Serina Lee with five digs and Mackenzie Potter with two aces. The Cougars drop to 4-5 on the season.

In junior varsity action, South Central won 25-16, 25-16 to improve to 2-3.

At Clay Ctiy

At Shelbyville

Host Shelbyville handed Cumberland a loss in two sets, 25-23, 25-16.

Leading Cumberland were Sadie Oakley and Katelyn Yaw with three kills each, Danae Sowers with three aces, Claire Guyon with 13 digs and Michaela Bradley with five assists. The Pirates fall to 2-6.

Shelbyville also claimed the junior varsity contest 25-22, 25-20.
