St. Elmo Falls to Valmeyer in State Tourney Bid

VALMEYER -- St. Elmo High School saw its bid to reach the Class A State Volleyball Tournament come to an end Saturday in the super-sectional at Valmeyer.

The Eagles lost to host Valmeyer 25-15, 25-23. The one-two punch of Andi Inman and Paige Whipple were too much for St. Elmo. The duo combined for 19 kills and 17 blocks.

Leading St. Elmo were Savannah Feezel with nine kills and five digs, Megan Maxey with five kills and seven digs, Perry Manley with 12 sets and four digs, Heather Seibert with six digs and  Gabby Moore with seven digs. Feezel and Seibert had an ace each.

The Eagles finish a stellar season with a 29-10 record. This year was the first time St. Elmo had ever won a sectional title and gone on to play in a super-sectional in volleyball.

Valmeyer advances to face Mount Pulaski at 9 a.m. Friday at the Class 1A State Tournament at Normal University's Redbird Arena. Mount Pulaski beat Danville Schlarman 25-10, 25-11 to advance. In the other game Friday at 10:30 a.m., Rockford Keith Country Day School will take on Kansas.

Kansas defeated Edinburg 25-19, 25-11 to win the Windsor Super-Sectional Saturday. Rockford Keith Country Day School downed Elgin Harvest Christian Academy 18-25, 25-19, 25-18 to win the Lanark Eastland Super-Sectional.

Class 2A

Edwards County (Albion) captured the Effingham St. Anthony Super-Sectional. Edwards County defeated Pana 26-28, 25-18, 25-14.

Edwards County advances to state against Dakota, a 25-10, 25-9 winner over Chicago University 25-10, 25-9 to win the Pecatonica Super-Sectional.

Also entered in the Class 2A State Tournament are Mackinaw Deer Creek, a 25-17, 21-25, 25-21 winner over Decatur St. Teresa in the Riverton Super-Sectional and Port Byron Riverdale, a 25-23, 25-19 winner over Watseka in the Serena Super-Sectional.

Class 3A

Champaign Centennial won the Galesburg Super-Sectional by downing Rock Falls 25-17, 25-21. Richmond-Burton claimed the Grayslake Central Super-Sectional by beating Chicago Resurrection 25-22, 25-17.

Wheaton St. Francis defeated Palos Heights Chicago Christian 25-22, 25-15 to win the Palos Heights Super-Sectional and Jacksonville beat Columbia 25-18, 28-26 to win the Salem Super-Sectional.

Class 4A

Chicago Mother McAuley defeated Hinsdale Central 25-17, 25-15 to win the Chicago Mother McAuley Super-Sectional. Winnetka New Trier beat Glen Ellyn Glenbard West 25-13, 23-25, 25-14 to win the Skokie Niles West Super-Sectional.

Libertyville claimed the Hoffman Estates Super-Sectional by beating Crystal Lake Prairie Ridge 26-24, 25-23. Lisle Benet Academy defeated Edwardsville 25-20, 25-20 in the Normal Community West Super-Sectional.
