Area Athletes Named to All-Area Volleyball Team

Several local players were named to the Decatur Herald & Review All-Area Volleyball Team.

Named to the First Team and Player of the Year was Becca Schlechte, a senior at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg. She was a setter and had 851 assists, 135 kills, 322 digs, 59 blocks and 50 aces. The senior guided the Hatchets to a third place finish at the Class 1A State Tournament.

Also from Windsor/Stew-Stras, outside hitter Megan Schlechte, a sophomore, was named to the First Team. She is a sister to Becca and finished with 344 kills, 64 aces, 254 digs and 42 blocks.

Outside hitter Mallory Bergbower, a sophomore, from Newton was named to the First Team. She finished with 314 kills, 259 digs and had 49 aces.

Other First Team members were Maddie Holland of Shelbyville, Peyton Jackson of Taylorville, Madison Clayton of Taylorville and Sierra Thompson of Mattoon.

Named to the Second Team from the area was Grace Hartrich of Newton. The senior finished with 689 assists and 110 kills.

Other Second Team members were Madeline Allen of Tuscola, Madison Brown of Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, Torre Koontz of Shelbyville, Ashlyn MacDonald of Mattoon and Colleen Weddle of Pana.

Third Team members were Hannah Will of Effingham St. Anthony and Mackenzi Tabbert from Windsor/Stew-Stras. Will was a junior outside hitter while Tabbert was a sophomore outside hitter.

Other Third Team members were Jenna Dudra of Pana, Brooklynn Elsas of Lincoln, Morgan Hobgood of Arcola, Lexi Rankin of Mattoon and Caylee Wheeler of Shelbyville.

Area players named Honorable Mention were Kaitlyn Baker, senior outside hitter from Effingham, Chloe Martin, a junior middle hitter from Effingham, Marci Mills, a junior middle hitter from St. Anthony, Jenna Woltman, a senior setter from St. Anthony, Kasey Bean, a junior outside hitter from Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, Carson Cole, a sophomore libero from Windsor-Stew-Stras, Abby Frohning, a junior from Newton, Maria Gentry, a junior middle from Windsor-Stew-Stras, Mikayla Haddock, a  junior libero from Windsor/Stew-Stras, Kristen Hardiek, a senior libero from Newton, Lainey Jackson a senior from Cumberland, Tinley Mette, a sohpomore from Altamont, Nikki Miah, a senior libero from Neoga, Calla Roney, a sohpomore middle back from Windsor/Stew-Stras and Jaycie Roy, a senior from Neoga.
