St. A Falls To Pana in Regional Championship

SHELBYVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony lost its bid for a regional championship at the Class 2A Shelbyville Volleyball Regional Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs fell to Pana in two sets, 25-19, 25-20. Pana advances to the Cumberland Sectional Tuesday where it will take on Vandalia at 7 p.m. Vandalia defeated Flora 25-18, 25-17 to win its own regional title Thursday.

St. Anthony was led by Lauren Wendt with five kills, Haylee Mathis with six assits and Megan Nuxoll with eight digs.

Iin the opening match Tuesday, Casey-Westfield faces Carlinville at 6 p.m. Casey-Westfield was a winner over Newton to claim the Lawrenceville Regional.

Casey-Westfield won the opener 25-16 but Newton clawed back for a 27-25 win. The Warriors then went out 25-23. Newton was led by Keidrah Hardiek with 12 kills and 21 digs. Gabby Zerrussen had 17 assists while Sydney May led in solo blocks with three.

Carlinville won its own regional title by downing Greenfield 25-17, 25-16.
