St. Anthony, Newton Move Into Class 2A Regional Championships

SHELBYVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony moved into the Class 2A Shelbyville Regional championship match with a victory Tuesday evening.

The second-seeded Bulldogs took on third-seeded Cumberland and won in two sets, 25-12, 25-23.

In the opening match of the evening, top-seeded Pana downed fourth-seeded Shelbyville but it took three sets. Shelbyville won the opener 25-21 but Pana came back with identical 25-19 scores to pull out the victory.

St. Anthony takes on Pana at 6 p.m. for the championship Thursday. The winner will advance to the Cumberland Sectional Tuesday.

Lawrenceville Regional

Newton claimed a victory in the Class 2A Lawrenceville Regional. The Eagles, seeded No. 1, downed fourth-seeded Marshall 25-20, 23-25, 25-20. Marshall had beaten Lawrenceville Monday 25-8, 26-24.

In the second match of the evening, second-seeded Casey-Westfield won over Robinson, 25-16, 25-22. Robinson had beaten Red Hill (Bridgeport) Monday evening 25-11, 25-23.

Newton and Casey-Westfield meet for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to next Tuesday's Cumberland Sectional.

Vandalia Regional

Altamont saw its season come to a close in the Class 1A Vandalia Regional Tuesday evening.

The fifth-seeded Indians had to face top-seeded Vandalia and lost in two sets, 25-23, 25-17.

In the second match, second-seeded Flora won over Staunton 25-21, 17-25, 25-15.

Vandalia and Flora meet for the championship Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the Cumberland Sectional Tuesday.
