VANDALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School traveled to Vandalia and dropped a volleyball loss to the Vandals in three sets Tuesday evening.

Vandalia won the opener 25-19 before the Bulldogs came back with a 25-19 count. The Vandals then won the match 25-22.

Meg Richards led the Bulldogs with nine kills. Katie Kabbes had 14 digs while Jenna Woltman had 13. Marci Mills had a blocked shot.

Vandalia also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-18.

At Mount Zion

Effingham dropped the varsity match to Mount Zion in Apollo Conference play.

The Braves won 25-16, 25-19.  EHS was led by Abbey Meinhart, Chloe Martin and Kourtney Cordes with three kills each. Sidney Webster had eight assists. Victoria Garren led in digs with nine. The Hearts drop to 6-10 overall, 3-5 in the conference.

Effingham came back to win the junior varsity match. Mount Zion took the opener 28-26 but the Hearts fought back with 25-20, 25-20 wins for a 9-5 record.

EHS also won the freshman/sophomore contest 25-15, 25-15 to improve to 9-6.

At Altamont

Teutopolis nabbed both a varsity and junior varsity win over Altamont Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the varsity match 25-19, 25-22. Jolene Bueker led in kills with five for the Shoes while Jessica Drees had 10 digs. Drees and Savannah Grimes had eight points each. Grimes led in assists with eight. Macy Michels had five blocks. The Shoes improved their record to 14-11.

Altamont was led by Fearday and Mette with six kills each. Grimsley had 20 digs. Hoene led in assists with 11 while Fearday led in blocks with four. The Indians dropped to 10-11 on the season.

In the junior varsity match, T-town won in three sets, 25-10, 17-25, 26-24 and stand at 20-3 on the season. Altamont dropped to 6-7.

In freshman play, T-town won 25-15 while Altamont won 25-23.

At Dieterich

Dieterich picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Neoga. The Movin' Maroons won 25-19 before Neoga came back with a 25-11 count. Dieterich then took the win 25-22.

Lauren Garbe led in aces with seven, digs with 10 and kills with nine. Hannah Hunzinger had seven assists. Dieterich improved to 3-5 in the NTC, 8-13 overall.

Neoga was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-7, 25-13. Dieterich drops to 0-19.

South Central fell to Centralia in a non-conference matchup, 25-19, 7-25, 25-21.

Hannah Rubin led in points with 13 and had six kills. Kacie Crain led in digs with 16. Kendall Burleyson had three aces and 12 assists. The Cougars are now 19-7 on the season.

Centralia also nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-15, 25-18. South Central drops to 10-2. Centralia won the freshman/sophomore match 25-4, 25-13. South Central is now 2-4.

At Farina

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 19-5 on the season with a non-conference victory over Sullivan, 25-9, 25-10.

Becca Schlechte and Kasey Bean led in aces with four each. Mackenzi Tabbert led in kills with eight. Schlechte had 19 assists. Calla Roney and Mikayla Haddock led in digs with five each.

WSS won the junior varsity match 26-24, 27-25 and is 10-7. The two teams split freshman/sophomore matches. Sullivan won 25-23 while WSS claimed a 25-23 victory.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed the opener over Patoka 25-23 but fell in the next two contests 25-22, 25-22 for the match loss.

Emma Wehrle and Felicia Johnson had three aces each for CHBC. Johnson had 12 kills and 17 digs. Skylar Morrison had 14 assists.
