Teutopolis High School won the opening set 25-20 over Effingham in volleyball action Monday evening but the Hearts came back to take the second set 25-10. The Wooden Shoes then had a battle before pulling out a 26-24 victory.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Savannah Grimes with eight points and 11 assists, Macy Michels with six blocks and 10 kills and Grace Walker with 10 digs. T-town improved to 7-3.

"It was a wild night at Effingham," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "The fans were really into the JV match. It was really good volleyball with two very talented JV teams playing hard, very entertaining.

"Then the varsity match started and it was just as competitive. We really struggled with our serve receive in the varsity match. But our blocking was solid and the setters did a great job of running the offense."

Effingham was led by Victoria Garren with 16 digs and three aces, Kaitlyn Baker and Sidney Webster with seven kills each, Webster with 13 assists and Chloe Martin with two blocks. EHS drops to 1-7.

In junior varsity play, Teutopolis won 25-27, 25-22, 25-23. The Shoes improved to 5-0 while EHS dropped to 3-3.

T-town also claimed the freshman/sophomore match 25-18, 25-14. EHS falls to 1-1.

At Altamont

South Central picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Altamont Monday evening.

The Cougars won the opener 25-13 then came back for a 25-14 count. The Cougars are 4-0 in the National Trail Conference, 9-2 overall. Altamont dropped to 1-2 in the conference, 3-6 overall.

Rachel Bray had 13 points for the winners and two aces, Kendall Burleyson had 13 assists and Emiliy Chapman had seven kills.

Altamont was led by Wharton and T. Paquette with three kills each, Grimsley with 11 digs and Hoene with eight assists.

In junior varsity play, South Central won 25-21, 8-25, 26-24 and is 7-0. Altamont dropped to 3-2. Altamont claimed the freshman/sophomore contest 25-11, 25-20. South Central drops to 1-2.

Elssa Barton had seven kills and eight points for the winners. Marlee Nolan, Tessa Philpot, Dana Shelton and Deana Shelton had three digs each.
