EHS, Newton Compete at Edwards Co. Tournament

ALBION -- Effingham and Newton competed in the Edwards County (Albion) Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Effingham defeated Grayville 25-9, 25-18 and Hamilton County 25-19, 25-23. The Hearts lost to Benton 25-22, 25-22. Then claimed a victory over Casey-Westfield 25-23, 25-16 before falling to Edwards County 25-17, 32-30 to finish third.

Leading the Hearts were Stephanie Robb in aces with seven, kills with a total of 36 and blocks with nine. Felicia Totten had 56 assists. Kelli Utz had 56 digs.

Kelli Utz and Deedra Myers were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Newton defeated Mount Carmel 25-6, 20-25, 15-9, Noble 25-15, 18-25, 15-10 and Fairfield 25-18, 25-15. The Eagles lost to Casey-Westfield 25-16, 26-24 and Hamilton County 25-18, 24-26, 16-14.

Leading the Eagles were Keidrah Hardiek in aces with 10 and kills with 31. Megan Jansen had 48 assists. Morgan Swingler led in digs with 60. Sydney May had nine blocks. Keidrah Hardiek was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Benton claimed the championship followed by Edwards County in second place, EHS in third and Casey-Westfield in fourth.
