Neoga, CHBC, North Clay, Cumberland Opening Round Regional Volleyball Winners

Area teams competed in Class 1A, 2A and 3A volleyball regionals Monday evening. In local regionals, Neoga, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, North Clay (Lousiville) and Cumberland were winners.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

One lone match saw host Neoga High School picking up a 25-17, 25-23 win over Martinsville in this regional.

Lauren Romack led the Indians with eight kills and three aces. Nikki Miah tallied 11 digs. The Indians, with a 9-21 record, will now face Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6 p.m. today.

In the second match tonight, Effingham St. Anthony squares off against Bethany Okaw Valley at 7.

At Neoga

Neoga -- Roy, 1 ace, 7 kills, 3 digs; Romack, 3 aces, 8 kills, 4 digs; Miah, 1 ace, 11 digs; Hill, 2 kills, 3 digs; Banning, 2 aces, 1 kill; Roderick, 5 kills; Neece, 4 digs

 

Class 1A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came out a winner in the first match of the Class 1A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional.

CHBC defeated Morrisonville 25-18 in the opener. Morrisonville came back with a 25-19 victory. CHBC then won with a 25-10 count.

The Hornets were led by Kallie Clearwater with seven aces. Kara Clearwater had 11 kills. Skylar Morrison tallied 15 assists. Leading in digs was Leah Kelly with 16.

In the second match, Nokomis won over Ramsey, 25-21, 25-9.

Tonight's matches find CHBC taking on host Raymond Lincolnwood at 6:15 p.m. followed by Mount Olive facing Nokomis with 7:15.

At Raymond

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City -- Morrison, 2 aces, 15 assists, 8 digs; Johnson, 4 aces, 2 kills, 8 digs; Kelly, 3 aces, 8 kills, 1 block, 16 digs; Wehrle, 1 ace, 1 assist, 10 digs; Heiserman, 2 aces, 1 kill, 1 assist, 11 digs; Kar. Clearwater, 11 kills, 1 block, 2 digs; Kal. Clearwater, 7 aces, 10 digs; Haslett, 3 digs; Gates, 2 digs

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

North Clay (Louisville) picked up an opening round victory in the Class 1A South Central Regional.

The Cardinals defeated Webber Township (Bluford) 25-15, 25-6. North Clay advances to face South Central at 6 p.m. today. The second match will feature Cisne against Wayne City at 7.

 

Class 1A Oblong Regional

Hutsonville Co-op ended Dieterich's season by picking up a 25-23, 25-19 victory in the opening match.

In the second match, Oblong won a tough opener 26-24. Grayville came back with a 25-19 count but Oblong took the final set 25-15 for the match.

Hutsonville will now face Clay City at 6 p.m. today while Oblong squares off against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 7.

 

Class 2A  Cumberland Regional

Host Cumberland picked up a victory in its own regional Monday evening.

The Pirates, seeded ninth, beat Marshall 25-15, 26-24 in the second match. Marshall was seeded fifth. Lainey Jackson led the Pirates with 12 assists, seven kills, 13 digs and four aces. Becca Myers had three blocks. Jade Hutchcraft had seven kills. 

In the opener, Casey-Westfield was a winner over Kansas Co-op. Kansas won the first set 25-23 but the Warriors came back with a 26-24 count then went out at 25-23.

Cumberland (13-17) will now face Teutopolis at 7 p.m. today. Casey-Westfield (19-17) faces Shelbyville at 6.

At Toledo

Cumberland -- Jackson, 12 assists, 7 kills, 4 aces, 13 digs; Sowers, 2 blocks, 5 digs; Hutchcraft, 7 kills, 6 digs; Myers, 2 kills, 3 blocks, 1 dig; Brumleve, 3 assists, 2 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs; Guyon, 1 assist, 3 digs; Oakley, 2 kills, 2 aces, 6 digs; Gank, 2 aces, 9 digs

 

Class 2A Newton Regional

One lone match took place at Newton as Lawrenceville defeated Red Hill (Bridgeport) 25-4, 25-7.

Lawrenceville will now face host Newton tonight at 6 followed by Altamont taking on Robinson at 7.

 

Class 3A Decatur Eisenhower Regional

Mahomet-Seymour and Monticello picked up opening round wins.

Mahomet-Seymour defeated Decatur MacArthur 25-15, 25-13. Monticello was a winner over Decatur Eisenhower 25-14, 25-21.

Tonight's matches feature Mahomet-Seymour taking on Mount Zion at 6 followed by Effingham facing Monticello at 7.
