Effingham Drops Match, Area Volleyball Roundup

Effingham High School played host to Mattoon and dropped a volleyball match to the Green Wave 25-23, 25-22.

The Hearts were led by Shelby Nunamaker with nine kills and three blocks, Sidney Webster with 14 assists, Victoria Garren with three aces and Micaela Chrappa with 12 digs.

Mattoon also nabbed the junior varsity match, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15. The two teams split in fresman/sophomore competition. EHS won 27-25 and Mattoon won 25-13. EHS is 8-2-2 on the season.

Senior Recognition Night will take place Monday, October 19 as the Hearts play host to Altamont. The recognition ceremony will take place between the junior varsity and vasrity contests.

At Farina

South Central picked up a non-conference win over Odin, 25-12, 25-10. The Cougars are now 21-4 on the season.

Kendall Burleyson led in points with 17 and aces with six. She had 10 assists. Emily Chapman led in kills with five.

South Central also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-8, 25-14 and is now 9-3 on the season.

At Farina

At Louisville

North Clay defeated Patoka in varsity competition, 25-16, 25-11.

In the junior varsity match, the Cardinals also won 25-14, 25-22.

 

At Marshall

Newton pushed its record to 20-5 on the season by downing Marshall. The Eagles won the opener 25-13 before Marshall came back with a hard-fought 28-26 victory. Newton then went out 25-16.

Hartrich led in aces with five and assists with 21. Kline, Hartrich and Johnson had seven kills each. Frohning led in blocks with two. Cohorst had 11 digs.

In the junior varsity match, Newton won 25-22, 25-17 and claimed a freshman match 25-22, 25-15.

At Marshall

At St. Elmo

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed an Egyptian-Illini Conference win over Mulberry Grove, 25-15, 25-12.

Gabi Moore led the winners in kills with nine. Sarah Maxey had six aces, five digs and 18 assists. The Eagles are now 5-0 in the EIC and 15-9 overall.

At Broadlands

Cumberland finished in fourth place in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Tournament Thursday.

The Pirates fell to Argenta-Oreana 25-16, 22-25, 25-21 in the third place match. Winning the tournament was Tri-County who beat Sangamon Valley Tri-City, 25-10, 25-19. The fifth place match went to  Arcola over Heritage 25-16, 25-22.
