Bulldogs Win In NTC, EHS Takes Apollo Contest, Area Volleyball Roundup

ST. ELMO -- Effingham St. Anthony had to go three sets before pulling out a National Trail Conference win over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs won the opener 25-18 but SEB came back to take the second set 25-18. The two teams then battled in the final set before St. Anthony pulled out the 28-26 win.

Jenna Woltman and Marci Mills were dig leaders with 15 and 14 respectively for St. Anthony. Isabel Moore had 27 assists. Hannah Will led in kills with 10 and had three blocks. Meg Richards had three blocks and led in the ace department with three.

St. Elmo/Brownstown claimed the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-16.

At Mattoon

Effingham claimed an Apollo Conference win over Mattoon Tuesday, 25-23, 27-25 to remain unbeaten at 2-0 in the conference, 7-8 overall.

Chandler Ramey led in kills with 16. Sidney Webster had 21 assists. Hannah Pike led in aces with two and had two blocks. Jennifer Fred had 10 digs. Shelby Nunamaker had two blocks.

Mattoon captured the junior varsity contest 25-22, 25-23. The two teams split freshman/sophomore games.  EHS won 25-13 while Mattoon won 25-17.

At Neoga

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor continues to roll along in the National Trail Conference. The latest victim was Neoga as the Hatchets won 25-16, 25-13 to improve to 5-0 in the conference, 10-3 overall.

"The score doesn't do justice to the intensity of the match tonight," said SSW Coach Rhonda Schlechte. "I felt like we had to fight the entire match which is the type of game that I love. It makes us better. Neoga did a great job defending their court tonight. The crowd was crazy loud from both sides and the energy was also high. Carson Cole did an excellent job on defense and Megan Schlechte served 10 points in a row to give us a big push from a 12-10 score. The girls played really well tonight."

Autumn Bennett led the Hatchets in kills with six while Megan Schlechte led in aces with four. Kenzi Tabbert had 11 assists while Carson Cole led in digs with eight.

In junior varsity action, Stew-Stras/Windsor won 25-15, 25-17 to improve to 8-0 and won a freshman/sophomore contest 25-21, 25-23 to improve to 6-1-1.

At Neoga

Altamont picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 25-19, 25-21.

Altamont was led by Laatsch with five kills, five digs, one stuff block and one ace. Duckwitz had five assists. BCCH was led by Felicia Johnson with three aces and two kills. Skylar Morrison had six assists. Jade Heiserman led in digs with 10. The Indians are now 1-3 in the conference, 5-6 overall.

Altamont also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-20 and a freshman/sophomore match 25-11, 25-9.

Newton traveled to Cumberland and picked up a win over the Pirates 25-8, 25-18. Bergbower led the Eagles in aces with seven. Cohorst had seven kills. Hartrich had 12 assists. Hemrich had three blocks and Johnson had seven digs.

Newton also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-9, 25-13.
