St. Anthony Third in Bronze Flight at M-S, Volleyball Roundup

MAHOMET -- Effingham St. Anthony High School competed in the Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball Invitational during the weekend.

The Bulldogs lost the opener to Tri-Valley 25-10, 25-18 then won over Springfield SE 25-18, 25-16. St. Anthony then lost to Pleasant Plains 23-25, 25-22, 15-5 and Illinois Valley Community 25-22, 17-25, 15-11.

That put the Bulldogs into the Bronze Flight where they defeated Oakwood 25-22, 25-20 to finish in third place. Winning the Bronze Flight was Olympia over I.V.C. 25-11, 25-15.

The winner in the championship bracket was Champaign Central over Pleasant Plains, 25-17, 25-17.

At Shelbyville

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City competed in the Shelbyville Tournament and dropped five matches. Leah Kelly made the All-Tournament Team.

Shelbyville won the opener over CHBC, 25-16, 25-10. Edwards County (Albion) defeated CHBC 25-12, 25-8. CHBC then fell to New Berlin 25-17, 25-13 and Pana 25-15, 25-11. The final match went three sets with Decatur MacArthur taking a 25-16 victory, CHBC coming back for a 25-20 win before going down 15-11.

At Flora

North Clay (Louisville) competed in the Flora Freshman/Sophomore Volleyball Tournament.

Olney beat North Clay 26-24, 25-8 before the Cardinals fell to Marshall 25-21, 25-17. Salem then won 25-15, 25-12. North Clay broke through with its first win over Red Hill (Bridgeport) 25-7, 25-12 then finished out with a victory over Flora 27-25, 25-23.
