ALBION -- Effingham St. Anthony took on always-tough Edwards County (Albion) on the Lions homecourt and captured a win in volleyball competition Thursday.

The Bulldogs lost the opener 25-14 but came back with 25-15, 25-23 counts to pull out the match. Hannah Will had 10 kills for St. Anthony while Raven Rinker had 12 digs and Jenna Woltman and Taylor Dammerman 10 each. Woltman led in assists with 12.

At Albion

Varsity Match

At Effingham

The Hearts opened with a 26-24 loss to Newton but rallied to claim two close contests, 25-23, 25-23 for the match.

Chandler Ramey led EHS in killsl with a whopping 18 and had two aces and 11 digs. Jennifer Fred led in digs with 13 while Micaela Chrappa added 10. Sidney Webster led in assists with 18 and had two aces. Victoria Garren added two aces. Chloe Martin had two blocks. The Hearts are now 2-0.

In a junior varsity match, Newton won 25-13, 14-25, 25-19. EHS drops to 1-1.

In a freshman/sophomore match, the Hearts won 25-22, 25-17 to improve to 2-0.

At Dieterich

Dieterich evened its record at 2-2 with a win over Marshall. Dieterich claimed the opener 25-16 before Marshall came back with a 25-12 win. Dieterich then went out at 27-25.

Hannah Hunzinger had 10 points, seven aces and 10 assists for the winners. Lauren Garbe and Mikayla Winters led in the kill department with eight each. Garbe had four blocks. Garbe, Winters and Faith Boerngen had four digs each.

At Dieterich

At St. Elmo

South Central came calling and took home a hard-fought win over St. Elmo/Brownstown. The Cougars won the opener 26-24 before SEB came back to pull out a 26-24 win. South Central then claimed the match 25-22.

Kendall Burleyson led in points with 14 and aces with three. Deidra Schaal had 14 kills. Emily Chapman led in assists with 20 while Hannah Rubin had 11 digs. The Cougars are now 2-0 in the National Trail Conference, 2-0 overall.

BSE claimed the junior varsity match 25-16, 21-25, 25-20. The two teams split freshman/sophomore games as the Cougars won 25-17 and BSE won 28-26.

At St. Elmo

South Central -- Burleyson, 14 points, 3 aces, 7 kills, 13 assists, 4 digs; Rubin, 9 points, 3 aces, 7 kills, 1 stuff block, 11 digs; Garrett, 9 points, 2 kills, 1 dig; Bray, 4 points; Schaal, 1 point, 14 kills, 1 assist, 10 digs; Chapman, 10 kills, 1 stuff block, 20 assists, 1 dig; Germany, 2 stuff blocks, 1 dig; Crain, 17 digs

 

At Toledo

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg went three games before pulling out a victory over Cumberland.

WSS won the opener 25-12. The Pirates came back with a 25-18 victory. WSS then went out 25-20. Becca Schlechte led in aces for the winners with four and had 20 assists. Megan Schlechte had 13 digs and led in kills with seven.

In the junoir varsity contest, WSS was a winner 25-14, 25-22 and is 2-0.

At Toledo

At Casey

Altamont held off a Casey-Westfield attack to pick up the first win 26-24 then claimed the match 25-18.

Lilly Laatsch had five kills for the Indians. Kaitlyn Hoene led in assists with six and aces with two. Audrey Winters, Hannah Wolff and Laatsch had two digs each. 

Altamont also won the junior varsity match 25-21, 26-28, 25-22.

At Casey

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Ramsey in two games, 25-21, 25-19 to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Liz Reed led in aces for the winners iwth five. Felicia Johnson had four kills. Skylar Morrison had seven assists. Kallie Clearwater led in digs with six.

CHBC also captured the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-14.

At Ramsey
