ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo picked up high school volleyball wins in both junior varsity and varsity play over Teutopolis Thursday evening.

The Eagles won the varsity match 25-10, 25-15. T-town was led by Katelyn Ruholl with six assists and Rachel Deters with four digs.

In the junior varsity contest, St. Elmo lost the opener 29-27 but came back with 25-13, 25-23 wins for the match. T-town is back in action Monday at Effingham.

Neoga picked a victory over Beecher City. The Indians won the varsity contest 25-18, 25-22.

Leading Beecher City were Taylor Danekas and Taylor Clark with eight digs each. Kirby Herrmann had five kills while Kacie Hilt had eight assists. Kirsten Buzzard led in blocks with three.

Cumberland claimed the varsity match in two sets over Lawrenceville 25-14, 25-6.

"We had a very strong effort from the varsity squad," said Coach Talia Moore. "I've been pushing the girls to work on being aggressive with their serves and they certainly answered that challenge tonight. There were seven total aces and those serves that weren't aces typically forced the opponent to attack out of system balls. I'm really pleased with the level of play from the girls. They're really pushing themselves to run a very aggressive offense."

Cumberland was led by Kamisha Holsapple with 18 assists, nine points and nine digs. Jordan Plummer had 18 digs. Melissa Myers put up three blocks, two stuffs.

In junior varsity action, the Pirates beat Lawrenceville 16-25, 25-22, 25-19.

Newton won the opener 25-21 but Olney came roaring back to take the second game with a close 25-23 tally. The Tigers then won the game 25-22.

Newton was led by Andrea Cartright with nine kills. Megan Jansen and Gabby Zerrusen shared the assist lead with nine each. Morgan Swingler had two aces and led in digs with 10.
