Altamont Headed To Eighth-Grade State Volleyball Tournament

Altamont will be competing at the Class 8-2A State Tournament.

Altamont's volleyball team will be heading to the Class 2A Eighth-Grade State Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Altamont defeated Mount Olive 25-23, 25-23 to win the Raymond Lincolnwood Sectional Monday evening. Altamont improved to 20-3 on the season and will now face Mount Pulaski (21-3) Saturday at 2:15 p.m. at Auburn High School.

Taylor Paquette led Altamont in points with nine, aces with five, assists with four and blocks with two. Marlee Nolen had four assists. Caitlyn White had three kills and three digs.  Tinley Mette had three kills and two blocks.

Class 8-4A Tolono Unity Sectional

Effingham saw its season come to a close with a loss to Champaign Edison in this sectional Monday evening.

The Mustangs fell 25-20, 25-19 and ends the season with a 17-5 record.

Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Sectional

Grayville claimed this sectional championship by beating Stewardson-Strasburg Monday evening.

Stew-Stras won the opener 25-22 but Grayville came back with 25-20, 25-16 counts for the title. Stew-Stras ends the year with a 15-8 record.

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional

Oakland Lake Crest will advance from the St. Anthony Sectional with a victory over Edwards County (Albion).

Oakland Lake Crest won 25-20, 25-16 and is now 17-2 and advances to the Class 2A State Tournament with Altamont.

Class 8-3A Cumberland Sectional

Jasper County's season came to a close in the Cumberland Sectional Monday evening.

Tuscola East Prairie was a 25-7 winner. Jasper County came back with a 25-13 victory. Tuscola East Prairie then won the sectional title 25-13.
