Lake Land Claims Tourney Title

VINCENNES, IND. -- Lake Land College's volleyball team brought home its first title of the 2012-13 season as tournament champions, finishing 4-0 at the Blazer Classic Tournament in Vincennes, Ind. last weekend.

Lake Land defeated Rend Lake College 25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-19 then downed Kellogg Community College 25-15, 25-11, 25-16. Lake Land won over Prairie State College 25-15, 25-15, 25-12. The Lakers then beat Vincennes University 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 15-10.

Named to the All-Tournament Team for the Lakers were Effingham's Naomi Gray and Brazil's Anagila Silva. Silva also was named the tourney's most valuable player. Gray had 61 digs and two aces for the winners.

Lake Land is scheduled to play at the Logger Invitational in Springfield Friday and Saturday.
