STRASBURG -- Effingham St. Anthony played tough in taking a National Trail Conference volleyball win over Stewardson-Strasburg Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras won the opener 29-27 but the Bulldogs clawed back with a 25-19 victory then claimed the match 25-13.

"We started off the night with a rough start but was able to refocus and take the first set," said Stew-Stras Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We had a stable lead to begin set two but multiple errors and lack of communication put St. Anthony back in the game. We played timid in set three which forced more errors. Just not a good night all the way around. We have lots to learn from tonight so we can adjust and move forward."

The Bulldogs were led in digs by Rachel Schutz with 17 and Megan Nuxoll with 10. Jena Woltman had 32 assists. Logan Braunecker put down 13 kills and Nuxoll had 12. Nuxoll also had two blocks and two aces.

Stew-Stras was led by Becca Schlechte with three aces, eight assists and 12 digs. Kendall Knop also had 12 digs and led in kills with 11. Clara Kaufman had two solo blocks and one block assist.

Iin junior varsity play, St. Anthony also won 25-23, 25-15.

At Effingham

Effingham played host to Charleston in Apollo Conference action and won 25-19, 25-19. The Hearts are now 4-2 in the conference, 7-6 overall.

Felicia Totten led in assists with 23 for the Hearts. Chandler Ramey had 14 kills and 16 digs. Shelby Nunamaker led in blocks with four. Jennifer Fred had three aces.

The Hearts also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-18. Charleston won the freshman contest 25-22, 25-18.

St. Elmo/Brownstown came calling in a National Trail Conference contest and won 25-18, 25-17 over Altamont.

The Indians drop to 3-5 in the conference, 7-17 overall. Wharton had four kills and Winters led in digs with five.

St. Elmo/Brownstown beat Altamont in the junior varsity match 16-25, 25-18, 25-21.

At Flora

Newton swept Flora in all three matches. The Eagles won the varsity match 25-18, 26-24. In junior varsity play, Newton won 25-11, 22-25, 25-16. In freshman play, Newton won 25-19, 25-18.

Koebele led in aces with six while Johnson had six kills. Koebele also led in assists with 13. Kr. Hardiek and Koebele had seven digs each.

At Flora

South Central picked up a non-conference victory over Sandoval, 25-16, 25-19 to improve to 13-11 overall.

Emily Chapman had nine kills and 11 assists while Maria Brasel had eight kills, 11 assists and 10 points.

The Cougars also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-20, 25-18.

At Farina

South Central -- Chapman, 9 kills, 11 assists; Brasel, 8 kills, 11 assists, 10 points; Monical, 7 points; Schaal, 5 kills, 7 points

 

At Windsor

Windsor handed Cowden-Herrick a National Trail Conference loss 25-22, 25-13. The Blue Devils are now 8-1 in the conference, 18-5 overall.

Bennett led in kills with 11 for Windsor. Claire Pfeiffer had 22 assists. Bayleigh Tabor led in digs with 10.

Cowden-Herreick won the junior varsity match.

At Toledo

Martinsville picked up a victory over Cumberland, 25-22, 25-19 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast Division Tournament. Martinsville improved to 13-3 on the season.

Martinsville will now play for the championship Thursday at 7 p.m. against Tri-County. Cumberland faces Hutsonville/Palestine for third place Thursday at 6 p.m.

Neoga picked up a non-conference victory over Ramsey in two games, 25-7, 25-20. The win gives the Indians a 6-14 record.

Olivia Ott led in kills with six. Maddie Easton had 10 assists.

Neoga also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-8.

North Clay (Louisville) downed  Wayne City in three games. The Cardinals won the opener 26-24 before Wayne City won 27-25. North Clay then claimed a 25-11 win for the match.

Molly Rinehart led in kills with 18. Crull had 31 assists and six aces.
