Newton High School claimed the championship of the St. Anthony Invitational Saturday.

Newton High School claimed the championship of the Effingham St. Anthony Volleyball Invitational Saturday at the Enlow Center.

In Pool A play, Teutopolis defeated Newton, 25-19, 25-23; Pana won over Tri-County, 25-22, 25-15; Newton downed Tri-County, 25-20, 20-25, 15-13; T-town defeated Pana, 24-26, 26-24, 15-11; Newton won over Pana, 25-19, 25-19 and Teutopolis beat Tri-County 18-25, 25-20, 16-14.

In Pool B action, St. Anthony downed Sullivan, 25-23, 25-22; Shelbyville defeated St. Anthony, 25-16, 27-25; Olney claimed a 25-16, 25-10 win over Sullivan; St. Anthony beat Olney, 25-22, 25-19 and Shelbyville downed Sullivan, 25-2, 25-15.

In crossover play, St. Anthony beat T-town, 25-16, 25-20 and Newton defeated Shelbyville, 25-20, 25-18.

The seventh-place game went to Tri-County over Sullivan, 25-20, 25-20. Pana won the fifth-place contest over Olney, 25-23, 25-23. Shelbyville won the third place match against T-town, no score listed. Newton then defeated St. Anthony, 25-18, 25-19.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Claudia Watson (Shelbyville), Megan Nuxoll (St. Anthony), Madison Boone (Shelbyville), Danielle Repking (Teutopolis), Kristin Hardiek (Newton), Hannah Litzelman (Newton), Courtny Kman (Olney), Lexie Siegert (Pana), Heidi  Dague (Tri-County) and Brittin Boyer (Sullivan).

Altamont then downed Flora, 25-8, 25-11. Salem won over Altamont, 25-22, 25-21.
