Newton's Relay Teams, Flora's Ketelson Post Good Numbers, but Mammoser wins state pole vault title for Newton.

The Newton Eagles boys track team missed by one point of winning the state Class 1A team title Saturday at the State Boys Track and Field Meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Newton finished with 34 points, one point fewer than Chicago Leo.

Flora finished 12th in the 1A meet, Stewardson-Strasburg tied for 31st, Teutopolis tied for 38th, and St. Anthony tied for 66th.

Mitch Mammoser of Newton won the state 1A championship in pole vault, going 15' 11" for the title.  Mammoser's teammate, Brandon Tolliver-Goode, finished fifth in the pole vault, tying with Alex McWhorter of Teutopolis; each went 13' 9". 

The area was well-represented in the long jump, as Myles Ketelson of Flora finished second and Alex Baumgarten of Stewardson-Strasburg finished third.  T.J. Roy of Neoga finished 11th and Peyton Wyatt of Newton claimed  12th place.

Blake Ebeling of Newton finished 15th in the high jump; and Jason Fry of Stewardson-Strasburg claimed eighth place honors in the discus throw.

The Newton 4X800 meter relay team of Levi Newton, Corey Davidson, Luke Stone and Evan Brooks finished 12th, but Newton's 4X100 meter relay team of Ridge Finn, Peyton Wyatt, Dylan Johnson and Jake Stone finished second in the state.

Peter Keller of St. Anthony finished seventh in the 3200 meter run, while fellow freshman Mack McWhorter finished 17th.

Dominic Vahling finished seventh in the 110 meter hurdles, while Ketelson finished second for Flora in the 100.  Newton's 4X200 meter relay team of Ridge Finn, Peyton Wyatt, Dylan Johnson and Jake Stone finished second, and Ketelson got a fifth for Flora in the 200.

Newton's 4X400 meter relay team of Ridge Finn, Luke Stone, Austin Angel and Dylan Johnson finished sixth.

In Class 2A, Effingham's Nate Boggs finished seventh in the shot put and 10th in the discus throw.
