Two Indivduals, Two Relay Teams Advance To Finals In Girls State Track

Two individuals and two relay teams advanced to the finals from Thursday's Class 1A Girls State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Effingham St. Anthony's Allison Geen will be competing in the pole vault. Geen finished fourth in the preliminaries with a height of 3.06 meters.

Teutopolis' Jada Buehnerkemper will be competing in the high jump after qualifying in 12th with a height of 1.55 meters.

Newton has two relay teams that will be taking part in the finals. The 800 team of Makayla McVicar, Morgan Schafer, Laney Hemrich and Sydney Kinder finished sixth with a time of 1:47.15 minutes.

The 1600 relay team of McVicar, Elley Bennett, Kinder and Hemrich finished fourth with a time of 4:07.04.

The finals are scheduled for Saturday along with the finals of the Class 2A and 3A meets.

Other runners and field event competitors who participated from around the area, but did not advance to the finals were:

St. Anthony -- Liv Hoene, 100 hurdles, 18th in 17.04 seconds; 300 hurdles, 13th in 48.74 seconds; Mary Scheidemantel, high jump, 15th at 1.50 meters; Anna Greene, pole vault, 22nd at 2.61 meters

Teutopolis -- Kaitlyn Vahling, 100, 25th in 13.17 seconds; Ella Neihls, long jump, 28th in 4.60 meters; Kaela Neihls, triple jump, 19th in 10.02 meters; 400 relay (Adi Davidson, Halle Bushue, E. Neihls, Vahling), 21st in 51.93 seconds

Newton -- Brooke Schafer, shot, 18th at 10.32 meters; Gracie Smithenry, high jump, no height; Karasyn Martin, pole vault, 14th at 2.91 meters; Camryn Martin, pole vault, no height; 400 relay (Makayla McVicar, Elley Bennett, Laney Hemrich, Morgan Schafer), 24th in 52.05 seconds; 3200 relay (Karasyn Martin, Layne Marshall, Camryn Martin, Shae Bennett), 23rd in 10:40.79 minutes

St. Elmo/Brownstown -- Katie Berner, 300 hurdles, 22nd in 49.83 seconds

Cumberland -- Katelyn Shoemaker, long jump, 20th at 4.72 meters

South Central/Patoka -- Brooke Cowger, discus, 17th at 31.55 meters
