Newton Claims Own Boys Sectional Track Title

NEWTON -- Newton High School tallied 138 points to win its own boys track sectional and will be sending five individuals in eight events and three relay teams to the Class 1A State Track Meet.

The first and second place finishers automatically advance to State while any other athletes reaching state qualifying standards advance.

Parker Wolf won the 100 in 11.23 seconds and the 200 in 22.40. He finished third in the 400 but reached the state qualifying standard to advance at 51.80 seconds.

Griffen Elder will be competing in the 1600 and 3200. Elder won the 1600 in 4:41.74 minutes and finished second in the 3200 in 10:08.52.

Luke Weber finished second in the 800 in 2:04.85 minutes while teammate Owen Mahaffey won the 400 in 51.09 seconds. Owen Schackman took second in the 110 hurdles in 17.05.

Jacob Wickham will be competing in both the shot and discus. Wickham won the discus with a throw of 48.67 meters and took second in the shot at 15.09 meters.

The 400 relay team of Dalton Baltzell, Evan Zumbahlen, Isaac Flowers and Wolf won in 44.26 seconds. The 800 relay team of Baltzell, Flowers, Luis Zavala and Zumbahlen won in 1:35.06 minutes.

The 3200 relay team won in 8:24.42. Team members were Luke Weber, Zavala, Hayden Borgic and Mahaffey.

Advancing for Effingham St. Anthony were Griffen Elder in two events, the 1600 and 3200. Elder won the 1600 in 4:41.74 mintues and was second in the 3200 in 10:08.52.

Conlan Walsh will be competing in the 300 hurdles after winning with a time of 42.45 seconds.

The 1600 relay team of Giovanni Bucio, Walsh, Elder and Max Sager placed second in 3:32.51 minutes. The 3200 relay team was also second with a time of 8:30.42. Team members were Aidan Braunecker, Elliott Frisbie, Bucio and Walsh.

Teutopolis will be represented by two athletes and a relay team. Kolton Tedrick won the shot with a throw of 15.16 meters while Ethan Mette placed third in the triple jump with a qualifying leap of 12.55 meters.

The 800 relay team of Anthony Roley, Jack Lin, Ethan Mette and Ivan Wernsing finished second in 1:35.08.

Altamont will be represented by three individuals in four events. Ben Roedl took second in the high jump at 1.85 meters and was second in the triple jump at 12.58.

Eric Kollmann finished second in the discus at 46.96 meters. Jacob Veteto took third in the pole vault going over the qualifying mark with a vault of 3.85 meters.

Cumberland's Logan Gerhardt captured second in the 300 hurdles in 43.12 seconds.
