Newton Second At Olney Tiger Girls Track Invitational

OLNEY -- Robinson High School won the Olney Tiger Girls Track Invitational Thursday with 162.5 points.

The winners were followed by Newton 155.5, Cahokia 144, Olney 109, Fairfield 47, Paris 38, Altamont 10 and Bethany Okaw Valley 8.

Newton's Layna Marshall captured the 3200 with a time of 13:12.15 minutes. She was the lone Eagles trackster to finish first. She also took third in the 1600 in 6:02.85.

The rest of the team's scoring came from seconds, thirds, fourths and fifths.

Laney Hemrich finished second in the 100 in 12.74 seconds, second in the 400 in 1:01.59 and fitfh in the 200 in 27.68.

Brooke Schafer was second in the shot at 10.15 meters and second in the discus at 27.62.

K. Martin finished second in the pole vault at 2.74 meters. Gracie Smithenry was second in the high jump at 1.42.

The 400 relay team of Makayla McVicar, Sydney Kinder, Hemrich and Morgan Schafer finished second in 52.22 seconds. The 800 relay team of McVicar, Alaina Kuhl, Elley Bennett and Schafer were second in 1:54.30.

The Eagles also had a third place finish in the 3200 relay in 4:25.94. Team members were Karasyn Martin, Bennett, McVicar and Sydney Kinder. And the Eagles took third in the 3200 relay in 12:17.25. Team members were Zoey Michl, K. Martin, Ella Radke and Shay Bennett.
