Grace Nelson State Champ In 100 Hurdles, Area Track Roundup

CHARLESTON -- Altamont HIgh School's Grace Nelson placed in all three event finals at the Class 1A State Girls Track Meet Saturday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

Nelson claimed the state championship of the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.19 seconds. She also took second in the 300 hurdles in 44.81 seconds and was third in the 200 in 25.99 seconds. With those finishes, Altamont HIgh School captured ninth place in the team standings with 25 points.

Teutopolis High School School's Kaitlyn Vahilng also competed in three events. She finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.80 seconds, was fourth in the 400 in 59.83 and took fifth in the 200 in 26.19. The Wooden Shoes finished tied for 11th in the team standings with 24 points.

T-town's Isabelle Hemmen finished second in the pole vault with a height of 3.50 meters. Effingham St. Anthony's Allison Geen finished 11th at 3.25 meters.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Addie McWhorter took sixth in the high jump at 1.57 meters and the team score was 51st with 3.5 points.

Newton's Alexis Hetzer was sixth in the triple jump at 10.55 meters. The Eagles 1600 relay team of Sydney Kinder, Karasyn  Martin, Rylea Borgic and Laney Hemrich were seventh with a time of 4:14.01 minutes. Te Eagles were tied for 36th as a team with seven points.

Winning the team championship of the Class 1A girls state track meet was Tuscola with 57 points followed by Newark with 54.
