CHBC Fifth at Gene Armer Track Invite

CHAMPAIGN -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured fifth place as a team at the Gene Armer Track Invitational in boys action Saturday.

Normal Community High School was the team champion with 58 points. CHBC came in fifth with 36 points while Newton was 18th with 11.

CHBC's Jadon Robertson finished first in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds. Robertson also finished first in the long jump with a leap of 6.64 meters. He was second in the high jump at 1.92 meters.

Teammate Daniel Lucas claimed second place in the shot with a heave of 16.92 meters.

The only other top five finish was the 3200 relay of Newton. The Eagles, that included Owen Mahaffey, Nicholas Shamhart, Nick Zwilling and Luke Weber, finished in 8:47.87 minutes.

Newton finished 18th as a team with 11 points.

In the girls meet, Kankakee Senior won the team title with 61 points. Newton finished 12th with 22, Brownstown/St. Elmo 17th with 13 and Teutopoils 22nd with eight.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Addie McWhorter was the top area finisher in the meet. McWhorter took second place in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters.

Other area top five finishers were the Brownstown/St. Elmo's 3200 relay team of Jaydin Huddlestun, Cordelia Lytle, Kyleigh Ward and Katie Berner with a time of 11:21.87 minutes. Newton finished right behind BSE in fifth place in 11:26.14. Members of the Eagles were Ella Radke, Jorja Whitaker, Natalie Kistner and Karasyn Martin.
