EHS Claims Ninth Place In Winston Brown Boys Track Invitational

EDWARDSVILLE -- Effingham captured ninth place in the Winston Brown Boys Track Invitational Saturday at Edwardsville High School.

Winning the meet was Cahokia with 150 points while O'Fallon took second with 139, Edwardsville was third with 137, Belleville West fourth with 107 and Mount Vernon rounded out the top five with 58.

Cahokia, the Class 2A state defending champion, had seven first place finishes in the win led by freshman Ja'Mari Ward taking the long jump at 23 feet, 2 1/2 inches and the triple jump at 47 feet, 4 inches. Both were meet records.

O'Fallon had just two winners and Edwardsville three winners.

The top finish for the Hearts was a third by the freshman/sophomore 400 relay team of Zach Miller, Sean Zerrusen, Alex Howell and Ben Percival. The squad took third with a time of 46.71 seconds.

Kyle Niebrugge took fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches. Taylor Fatheree finished fourth in the 1600 with a time of 4:40.98 minutes. He also had a fifth place finish in the 3200 in 10:00.96.

"The boys are still improving," said Coach Terry Harbaugh. "They're jumping higher and farther and running faster."
