T-town Nabs Girls Track Meet While Altamont Takes Boys Win

ALTAMONT -- Teutopolis High School claimed the girls six-team meet while Altamont was the boys champion in track competition Monday.

In the girls meet, the Wooden Shoes tallied 192.5 points followed by Effingham St. Anthony 127.5, Altamont 72, Vandalia 63, Brownstown/St. Elmo 27 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 13.

First place finishes for the Shoes went to freshman Kaitlyn Vahling in the 100 with a state qualifying time of 12.88 seconds. Jessica Runde went 6:19 minutes to claim the 1600. First went to Taylor Bueker in the 3200 in 15:13.31 minutes. Isabella Hemmen was a winner in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches and Kaela Neihls claimed the triple jump  with a leap of 341 meters.

The Wooden Shoes claimed three of the four relay races. T-town won the 800 in 2:02.69 minutes. Team members were Hemmen, Ann Zumbahlen, Lauren Heuerman and Vahling.

T-town then took the 1600 in 4:49.89 minutes. Members of the team included Joleen Deters, Bueker, Runde and Zumbahlen. The Shoes also won the 3200 in 11:42.84. Zumbahlen, Bueker, Deters and Runde were the team members.

Altamont's Grace Nelson was a four-event winner as she has been during the spring campaign. Nelson won the 200 in 25.63 seconds, the 100 hurdles in 15.09, the 300 hurdles in 45.34 and the long jump at 207.50 meters.

St. Anthony's Evie Strullmyer claimed two victores taking the 400 in 1:08.94 minutes and the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.

In the boys' meet, Altamont claimed the six team win with 162 points followed by St. Anthony 139, Vandalia 79, Teutopolis 47, Brownstown/St. Elmo 37 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 15.

Altamont claimed championships in nine events. Xander Moschenrose nabbed two of those victories, winning the 100 in 11.44 seconds and the 200 in  23.15.

Tristan Rhodes also captured two victories for the Indians. Rhodes won the 100 hurdles in 17.52 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 44.58. 

Eric Kollman captured the shot with a throw of 1,531 meters. Sam Mathesius claimed the triple jump with a leap of 456 meters. Derick Budde was a winner in the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, 6 inches. Tucker Short won the 400 in 53.31 seconds.

Altamont also took the 800 meter relay in 1:38.78 minutes. Members of the team were Logan Duncan, Mathesius, Moschenrose and Kolby Brewer.
