T-town Eighth At Class 1A Girls State Track Meet

Teutopolis Wooden Shoes finished eighth at the IHSA Class 1A State Track Meet Saturday.

CHARLESTON -- Teutopolis High School captured eighth place as a team at the Class 1A Girls State Track Meet Saturday at Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Stadium.

DuQuoin claimed the team title with 58 points. Teutopolis finished eighth with 26 while Newton had seven and Brownstown/St. Elmo six.

The big news was Claire Bushur who was very instrumental in the eighth-place team finish. Bushur became the state champion in the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 10 inches and also took second in the shot at 44 feet, 3 3/4 inches.

Also placing for the Wooden Shoes were the 3200 relay team fifth in 10:07.38 minutes. Members of the relay team were Jessica Runde, Kaitlyn Schumacher, Rebecca Habing and Morgan Mette.

Mette finished seventh in the 400 in 1:01.67 minutes.

Other Wooden Shoes finishes were Micah McWhorter 10th in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches while teammate Isabelle Hemmen was 11th at 10-0.

The area did well as Newton took a third place finish in the 1600 relay with a time of 4:06.21 minutes. Team members were Claire Carr, Madison Phillips, Abby Stone and Brooklyn Herman.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Claire Wilhour finished fourth in the 300 hurdles in 45.90 seconds.

Effingham St. Anthony's Sarah Carr took 11th in the 800 in 2:26.39.

Altamont's Rachel Jackman finished 15th in the high jump at 5-1.

Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore took 19th in the 3200 in 12:33.15.

The lone participant in the Class AA meet was Effingham High School's Kiyah Kuhlman. Kuhlman competed in the 100 hurdles and finished third with a time of 14.88 seconds.

East St. Louis Senior won the AA team title with 72 points.

St. Anthony's Sarah Carr finished 11th in the 800. Carr won Most Valuable Player for St. Anthony High School in track.
