T-town Girls Win Sam Bennett Track Invite

ROBINSON -- Teutopolis High School outran and outdistanced 14 other teams to win the championship of the Sam Bennett Girls Track Invitational Friday at Robinson High School.

The Wooden Shoes tallied 101.5 points followed by Newton 89, Shelbyville 61, Robinson 61, Olney 56, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 53, Red Hill (Bridgeport) 33, Cumberland 19.5, Altamont 18, Brownstown/St. Elmo 16, Paris 14, Palestine/Hutsonville 13, Marshall 9, Lawrenceville 8 and Neoga 6.

T-town captured five first places finishes in the meet. The Shoes won the 1600 relay with a time of 4:18.90. Team members were Julia Hardiek, Kaitlyn Schumacher, Rebecca Habing and Morgan Mette. They also claimed the 3200 relay with a time of 10:18.50. Members were Jessica Runde, Habing, Schumacher and Mette.

The Shoes took three individuals first place finishes and Claire Bushur was a winner in two of those. Bushur captured the discus with a throw of 137 feet, 3 inches and also claimed the shot with a heave of 45 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Micah McWhorter nabbed first in the pole vault at 10 feet, 6 inches.

Along with the firsts, T-town took two seconds, four thirds, two fourths, a fifth and two sixths.

Newton finished with three first place finishes. Brooklyn Herman was an individual winner in two of those taking the 200 in 26.68 seconds and the 400 in 1:02.07. She also was a member of the Eagles first place 400 relay team in 51.96 seconds. Other team members were Liz Volk, Claire Carr and Abby Stone.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Jaelyn Robertson was a winner in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds and Tatyana Duckwitz won the long jump at 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

Brownstown/St. Elmo's Claire Wilhour captured the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.43 seconds.

Jasmyne Dittamore of Cumberland High School was a winner in the 800 in 2:31.30 minutes.

Altamont's Rachel Jackman captured the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.
